Question about drain incision, please?

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I was sleeved 1/23 and had my drain removed 1/28. I have been changing the dressing over the incision twice daily, after a light flush of hydrogen peroxide. The incision itself is larger than any of the others and even four days later, looks moist and "open"..... it is not puffy and red, but I should have thought it would begin to close already. Any ideas?

Thanks so much,

Deb

How open? Just a little bit?

It's pretty open....it's not actively bleeding, but I am getting some yellow discharge on my gauze. It just doesn't seem like it's closed at all since the drain was pulled. I get kind of weak in the knees when I look at it, because I don't know what I'm looking at inside of it. :)

If i remember correctly after mine was pulled out I had to wear a bandage over it for approx. a week. Give it a few more days and keep an eye on the color of the drainage.

Same here, about a week to ten days. It was still a little puffy when I pulled my stitches out.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
