Is My Body Refusing To Lose More Weight - 1yr+

Recommended Posts

Greetings All!

I really think this should be a post for the Veterans Forum, but sadly I don't qualify (you need to have 100+ posts, whew!). Anyway, I am 16 months out and 20 lbs from goal (and have been for about 5 months). Now I admit that I am not as stringent as I was in the first year. I now allow myself some carbs and treats in addition to some cocktails. I have also slacked off on my Water (though I was never able to get to the 120/oz a day requested by my doctor AND get the Protein in).

Now don't get me wrong, I look great due to my muscle mass and body shape (curvy). My blood work is stellar (my doctor said she wishes her blood work looked like mine). However, it bothers me that I am still obese on the charts when I visit the doctor, and that other people with similar stats to mine (including time since surgery) posting about how they got to goal in five months and are now fighting to keep their weight from falling under goal. There have also been several posts about people experiencing stalls and freaking out when they are only 3-6 months out. This is different. Could it be that my body is just done losing weight?

Ducker

You may have hit a point of equilibrium where the amount of calories you take in equal the amount of calories you burn on a daily average. If you would like to lose more weight, ensure you are doing the basics:

Don't drink Water 15 minutes prior, during or 45 minutes after eating

Eat lean Proteins first, then good carbs

Exercise - push yourself, don't just go through the motions. Your heart rate should be up there.

Do you track on MyFitnessPal?

I actually got in a car accident in November and am not allowed to do anything but walk for 20 mins. at a time so I do that twice a day. I should have mentioned that. However, my "stall" had already set in before the accident when I was exercising harder so I don't think that part is relevant.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
