My wife is certainly supportive in general, but I'll tell you that this process has been harder on her than me. She's very worried that I'll change, that I'll get 'too skinny,' etc.

Definitely a weird dynamic. The excellent book 'Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery' has a lot about this and more. Strongly suggest it.

After I booked and made the deposit my wife said you better not be looking for some one younger after you lose the wieght(she is 8 years older then me), I said I'll be more upset is you leave me for a fat guy. It was all in fun. She has been very suportive and been there every step of the way.

My wife only worries I'll change and want something different, and each time I just have to take some time and remind her of what we have together and that nothing will ever mean more to me. As far as support, she's been my pillar to lean on through everything it seems. I'm only lucky SOB.

My wife had this done in Sept and is down 75 lbs. She has been pushing me to do it ever since. Now I have a surgery date on the 20th of March.

My wife has been supportive all the way. I think one of her issues is her friends always complimenting me to her as if she doesn't see me everyday. I can notice a slight tendency for her to ask where I'm going more often. Of course she's 100% onboard but I think she now fears of course that other women notice me more also.

You will notice them noticing you more. I am flabbergasted at the young gals who flirt with a 64 year old man such as myself. Fortunately, I have enough in my head and heart to realize what a treasure waits for me at home. She has been with me through hell and back, she's the Audie Murphy of my life. No clear eyed, smooth skinned cutie pie has a chance against her depth of experience and affection. Besides, she looks mighty good to me anyway.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
