Hello everyone! I am just starting my journey to be healthy but am so very excited. I am glad that there is a forum like this to get tips and advice from others who have been through the process of getting sleeved. I have to attend 5 months of a presurgical "Lifestyles" class before I can get a surgery date. My first class in on 2/12 and I have my first surgeon consult appointment on 2/19. I am anxious to get the process started but I understand the need for the classes. It is a complete lifestyle change. Anybody out there from the Pittsburgh area and specifically having/had the surgery at a UPMC hospital?

Hi! I had my surgery on 10/25/12 at Magee in Pittsburgh. :)

I am so glad that there is somebody else out there that went to Magee. I attend my first Lifestyles class tomorrow and I meet with the surgeon next Tuesday.

What did you think of the experience there? Any tips or suggestions for me?

Congrats on beginning your journey! I think Magee is a great place. I'm very glad I chose them as the place to have my procedure done. Dr. George Eid is my surgeon and he has been just amazing! I truly could not have asked for better.

My only tips? Get used to drinking Water now. It will be your best friend after surgery, so the sooner you can switch to water/ zero calorie beverages (NO SODA!) the better. Maybe even start trying some Protein drinks now to see which you think you might like. I also use the MyFitnessPal app to track my daily intake- it's a great way to hold myself accountable and a great support system! So if you use it, let me know.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
