Confused between joining a weightloss center and getting WLS

Recommended Posts

I'm in the beginning of WLS and my first weight management appointment is this Wednesday coming up at montifiore and I'm having second thoughts AgAIN!! I wanted to know which was better . I've never gone through a supervised diet with anyone and have been overweight and at around the same weight for the last 10 years. So I wanted to know if I should give myself a chance on losing weight on my own under a supervised diet and see if I lose 100 pounds but what should I do about my weight management at montifiore? Should I drop out and call them back for an appointment if my diet doesn't work out or should I do both? :(

I'd ask yourself how many times you've lost weight just to gain it all back plus some. I to was overweight, basically stuck at the same weight, for 10+ years and lost/gained the same 20 lbs. ...too bad I need to lose 120 lbs. If you think you can do it on your own, then why haven't you done it already? If you think you can do it on you own, and maintain the weight loss...then do the weight management. I myself knew I'd end up gaining it all back in the end, cause I'm a carboholic....so I had the sleeve done. Now I don't even want carbs and I know the weight I lose will be gone forever. Whatever you choose, I wish you well. Do what is right for you and feel good about it.

I agree with Traci. You can still go ahead with the appointment for WLS and do the weight loss diet and be one step ahead of the game (not that this is a game) if for some reason it doesn't work out and you decide on the surgery. It's what's best for you. You will know when you have exhausted all options. You have to be 100% sure of this because there's no going back. Not that you want to. I'm being sleeved next week and there is no doubt in my mind I'm doing the right thing for me!

I think most of your responses here will be pro WLS. I know for me I would never be able to keep the weight off on my own; I have lost over 100 pounds twice only to gain the weight back. I say go to both appointments and you will know which is right for you. Good Luck

I think only you can make that decision. You're obviously going to get very pro WLS responses here.

For me, I'd been struggling and yoyo dieting for decades. The older I got the harder it got. Eventually I'd lost all optimism for losing weight and I knew WLS was for me.

If you think that you can avoid surgery, and the associated risks, and lose 100 pounds at a weight loss centre maybe you should give it a go?

My thoughts again, but I don't think getting the ball rolling with both options would work. Losing weight is about commitment. If someone had an 'iron in the fire' with WLS as a back up plan, I don't believe anyone would succeed at what ever the first option was. What ever method you choose it has to be with a 'I'm NOT going to fail at this' attitude. Going to WLS appointments will undermine this.

Good luck with what ever you choose,

Deano

Wait loss center may be a very viable way to go, I used treatment doctor years before trying this and knowing I needed do it. YES, it worked, BUT, at the time I was given pills to aid the whole thing. This bouncing dieting then finally spending years more time obese than the other led me to believe I needed WLS as a most perminant fixture in attaining best goal and result at length.

Also, I would add, a program like that may teach you much valued life lessons that will stick regardless of the re-gain, which took me average 2 to 3 years each time I acchieved best weight I was satisfied with and wore regular clothes etc...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
