sleeved Saturday, have barely eaten anything and up 1 lb

Recommended Posts

On Friday when I left for SanDeigo I weighed in at 202 lbs. I did a serious day of walking/shopping and had 3 Protein Shakes with 5 litres of Water. After midnight I didn't eat anything, had the operation saturday at about 2pm ate nothing that day except for IV saline. Next day I had 2 popsicles, the first half of the first one I barfed up. Monday I had a bowl of broth from the hotel and added a little bit of Protein Powder to it. The next day, Protein in the am, Soup at 7pm. Today I jump on the scale and I'm 203 lbs. I know, I know the scale is discouraging but COME ON! I've haven't even had 500 calories for 3+ days and I'm up a lb? Anyone else have this after surgery? It's just a little depressing.

Yes, this happens. Sometimes the cause is the result of the extra fluids your body has from the iv fluids. After I got home I had some swelling of my legs and ankles. After drinking and walking and getting enough fluids in me to actually urinate and the swelling went down. The next time I checked I was down 15 pounds. Don't worry. The weight will come off.

Relax! You are going to be bloated from IV saline still which has tons of sodium and sugars, and also, your body is starting to adjust! Give it a week or two. I know myself I lost 9 lbs after the first week, I purposely didn't weigh myself right after surgery because I knew I would feel crazy like you are feeling! Just take care of yourself, follow the instructions, and before you know it you will be dropping those pounds! I weigh every morning and get frustrated too when my scale is stuck, or I feel like I had a good day the day before and it inches up. The best advice I have for you is to measure yourself. Even when I go through a stall, I still lose inches. It personally gives me a little sanity. Good luck!!

Totally normal. I know you won't listen...as I didn't listen when I was in your shoes...but I will say it anyways. Don't get on the scale everyday...or even every week. I weigh myself once a month now...and I am usually happy with the results...but when I was in the beginning I would lose...then go up...then down then up...it would drive me nuts. Weight can go up or down by five pounds a day. You will lose...just stop watching the scale and pay attention to all the clothes you shrink out of! Good luck!

Hey arthritis me. That name would fit me as well. To get weight off the joints is why I had the surgery. I lost a good bit of weight on Methotrexate too. I was 207 the day of surgery and I did not lose but three pounds in ten days. My surgery was dec 19. My weight two weeks ago was 197. I also had to stay two nights in hospital because I did not come out of anesthesia haze well enough to walk that night so I had more than enough fluids to shake. Also the less to lose the slower it goes seems like. Don't fret. It will come off. It seems like some do better once they start the real food opposed to the liquid phases. It's just all the Medicines given, IV fluids, and yur body simply trying to protect it's stores. Good luck to you! It will come off...:)

Hi guys, thanks for the reassurance. I did stooopidly look at the scale this morning and lost a pound. Small yeay! But then I tried to get my knee high boots on and my legs are so thick I must be retaining a tonne of Water. I think all of this new stuff I'm having has SO much sodium in it, it's terrible. But I'm trying to drink alot of water to flush it all through. Walked for 45 min today too.

Just be aware that your abdomen will be swollen for quite a while as well. The first six weeks stay off the scale and wear comfy clothes. Your body is recovering from a major trauma.

You will do great

Don't cause any extra worry for yourself :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
