Self-payers, how long did the process take

Recommended Posts

I'm am trying to self pay to get banded. I am in Europe and considering 2 different Dr.'s, Dr. Weiner out of Frankfurt, germany, and dr. Mignon from Belgium. I am trying to make and appointment with one of them, and I would like to know how long the process takes to get banded after your first appointment, if you are not using insurance. :help:

MIne was about a month. But the doc took a vacation during that time too:) It was very fast. But i had to remind them everytime i called or had an appointment... then they expedited it. I think they are so used to having insurance issues. But it was pretty quick.

I could have had my surgery done the next week if I wanted too. I had surgery several months after my initial consultation (my choice).

When you are self pay, you don't have to wait as long. Physicians love self pay patients. They know they are getting there money up front and they put you in the next available date they have. As long as your medical problems are not too severe

It didn't take long at all. I went to the seminar and contacted Dr. Herrera's office the next day. He requires a psych. eval and nutritional consult prior to his approving you for surgery. I had the psych eval two days after the seminar. The day after that I met with the nutritionist and Dr. Herrera. I started my required two-week liquid diet the next day. During that time, I had the ekg, blood work and sleep apnea studies done. So, I guess from seminar to surgery date, I would say about 16 days.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
