Realizing how much is in our heads

Going through this incredibly tough yet rewarding experience has shown a bright light on some things I was in denial about!! So much of my eating prior to this I now know was mental or habit and NOT hunger. Now, not having those "hunger pains" we have all come to know and love, I realize how much I reach for food/snacks simply out of habit and not at all for hunger. It's so strange to think I ate and ate even when I didn't "need" to just because it was so habitual. So rewarding to know I now have the tools and am equipped to fight this addiction I have before refused to even admit I was suffering. My biggest weakness is/was bread and the fact that I have not had it in 2 months and do not desire it is so freeing!! Our biggest battles now are convincing our brains that we don't need that extra bite/piece and listening to our bellies telling us we are full. I try to remind myself as I am eating, when I get that "full" feeling, that the food is not disappearing and I can eat it again later or another time and I do not need to stuff that extra piece in now. It seems silly but I know now that that is basically how I was feeling that the food was going to go away and never come back, so I better eat every bite now. Leaving food on my plate was CRAZY to me.....now I smile at it and relish in it =). Looking forward to more and more "doggie bags" in my future!

Still learning this site. Just now read your post. I am so happy for you!! :D I think you may have stumbled upon something with the habitual thing. I find myself eating also when I am not really hungry.

So glad you have found a tool to help you. Looks like you are making great progress and getting your mind in check will only help you make it further in your journey. Keep on keepin on!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
