Pre-Op To-Do's

Recommended Posts

Hello!

My surgery is scheduled on 1/24/13; As that is 16 days away, I am wondering if there are things that you wish you had done differently, bought, organized, etc. Im trying to be as ready as I can, so if there is anything you felt would have been helpful to know or do or prepare for, and didn't realize it or yiu8 glad you did do, I would appreciate the advice!!!!

Thank you in advance ♥

I was glad I took chap stick. Don't forget your chargers. You may want to take your own slippers, pjs, toothbrush, pillow. I always prefer my own.

MomW covered the hospital. I also brought a back scratcher and it was a godsend ( the meds made me itchy) For home, I made sure I had plenty of bottled Water, Vitamin Water zero, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup, Protein shake/mix.

In the hospital, if they don't offer you a swab for your mouth after surgery, ask for it. You won't be able to drink until the next day and that for me was the worst. I rinsed off the lemon and just dipped it in cold water and squeezed it, just to moisten my mouth.

I also made sure I elevated what I needed to (bottles of water) so I didn't have to lift and bend.

Good luck!!

One thing for home is make sure you have a regular blender, not a magic bullet type, little storage containers, for all your leftovers, measuring spoons. I also used toddler spoons and toddler size plates. They help you eat slower and your plate does not look so empty.

Chewing gum

After the surgery ur mouth will taste weird and brushing the teeth wont help

My RN said that chewing gum would give you gas pains. So I wasn't brave enough to try. I would have loved to have gum during my hospital stay. You are too right, your mouth does taste weird and brushing does not help. It did get better once I got home.

I was thinking of bringing these tea tree oil toothpicks. Very strong. I LOVE them. All natural oral antiseptic.

Was just wondering how surgery went and if you had any things you wished you'd thought of to pass on. :)

It went perfectly and I couldn't have had a better experience. I think the anticipation made me fret about details and being prepared, but it was all much smoother than I thought it would be. So much fuss and it wasn't necessary.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
