It's hilarious to eat, now

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I just lay back and listen to my body work. I was never this LOUD before but I feel like I hear everything. Eating is especially funny because it feels like.... suction? I guess? A little goes down at a time and I hear that "creaking" sound. It's just funny to me.

My boss asked me if anything felt different. I wanted to tell him it was like that movie Alien, but i didn't.

You are absolutely right! I lay in bed sometimes and hear the gurgles etc.. and my hubby look at me and say really? I just laugh and say yes would you prefer it this way or out the other end? Take your poison...LOL!

I kind of chuckle to myself when I see the amount of food I eat now and compare it to what I used to eat. The other day I made myself half a turkey sandwich for lunch and thought "I used to eat two full sandwiches like this, plus chips, plus a cookie and soda!" It's just amazing to me how that little bit fills me up now when before, it took an army of food.

I agree this sleeve is soooo noisy. My son asked me what was wrong with my belly. I told him him it's the new stomach getting used to things. :)

Regarding the amount of food I totally agree! We went to my moms for dinner and she had stuffed peppers some cooked zuccini and some fruit. Plus cheesecake for desert! Normally I would of eaten all of that plus another 1/2 pepper, Yesterday I could only get down half a pepper and a few bites of zuccini. :o

It's just so weird the difference now! I like it but weird! Sometimes now I feel like wow I ate all of that but then I think about what I used to eat and realize okay that's not bad at all. ;)

It's crazy. For me the best part has been seeing all the money I used to spend on food just sitting in my account!!! I didn't realize how much I spent on food between the grocery, and all the little fast food trips here and there. I'm sitting on an extra $200 this check alone and I decided that any extra goes into my CLOTHES FUND!!! :)

On a side note I had my 2 week checkup today and they said I'm a model patient, and that I was 7lbs ahead of the curve! I lost 21 over the past 2 weeks!

Wow, you guys are doing excellent! I was sleeved on 11/14, and I totally agree with everything you're saying. There are times when I'm eating dinner and I know if I eat one more bite of anything, I'll throw up. Still getting used to how much I can eat. Though some days a little more and some days less.

Also, I was getting a little bummed out because prior to the holidays, I had "only" lost 23 lbs., but I weighed yesterday and am down close to 30. Just didn't think it was coming off fast enough as compared to everyone else, but then I thought about how I'm 62 yrs. old and everyone's body is different. Anyhow, I feel better now. Anyone else feel like that, or am I the only "old" chick? ha ha ha

Mine is coming off more slowly than i expected but I was losing absolutely ZERO before surgery so I'll take it.

I can't get used to not preparing so much food. I brought some chili for lunch today and I was thinking 'that's too much....' then, 'nah, it's fine...' It was too much. Guess I'll have the rest of it tomorrow. :/

Suction and creaking sounds??? Ahhhh! Oh well, maybe I could think of it as "dinner music". :P LOL

I agree with DUBrookie03, I was spending at least $10-15 per day on food either in the morning before work or at lunch. I looked at my bank account last month and was taken back by the balance hardly moving because of the lack of food debits. My wife was amazed at the grocery bill over the past several months also.

I have gurgling sounds that come from my throat every time I eat. It's embarrassing. Very loud. Been to the doctor, nothing helps. I do not get even 1/2 of my liquids in. I prevent drinking just to avoid the noises. Very loud. Actually brings me to tears sometimes. Wish it would stop... I skip food to if I know I will be I a quiet place after eating. Sooooo frustrating.

You are so right, sometimes my hubby sit's and watch me eat. When I put the fork down and push away he's like really your done? I no longer order my own meal I just eat off his plate and we save money can't beat it!

I may sound cheap, but I actually figured out that I'd be able to cover my co-payments for surgery with the money I'd be saving from the reduced food bills. I figure in about 3 years I'll have broke even.

Agreed, eating is cheap right now. I used to spend aobut $100 a week on food. I ate out everyday, never cooked. I can't even imagine it now!

Today we had fajita bar for lunch... chicken and steak, veggies, rice, Beans, queso, guac.... whole deal.

The pitiful amount of refried Beans and cheese I could eat... and out of this tiny ramekin... and I couldn't even eat all that I had dished out! I am amazed.

I've never seen our grocery bill so low. We pretty much shop for 1 person bc I don't eat much at all.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
