Within a couple of days after surgery for me. What I did was find a fluffy pillow that I could use as a tummy support. I always sleep on my right side.

When I left the hospital I was told that as long as I am comfortable I can sleep in any position, including face down.

It took me 6 days to be able to lay on my side. Either side. My main incision is on my left, but it hurt on either side. I've been sleeping on my side now for about a week, until 2 nights ago. I can no longer side sleep again, and I believe this is due to the fact that I am at the point where my internal sutures are reabsorbing. The Dr. warned me about this :(

I hope this passes soon and I can get back to my side b/c I hate sleeping on my back!!

i am having problems sleeping on my side and man it urks the hell out of me.... i am so use to tossing and turning freely pre-op and now its hard as hell to move/sleep. I literrally in my recliner often just to try to rest which isnt comfortable but it beats the pain and agony i have to endure everytime i try to get in bed. UGHHHH miserable. I bought a binder today but im not sure howww much of a difference it will make. I feel like left side incisions are busting at the seams if i put to much pressure on them. Today makes my 8th day post op. Best of luck and if any other helpful tips are out there please do tell. Im desperate with a capital D :(

Thanks,

TD

Get a nice body length or king size pillow when you do go back to side sleeping. Put it under the stomach so you get some support. Helps a LOT.

I was laying on my left side the day of surgery, it took about another 5 days before the "pulling inside" sensation went away and I was able to sleep on my right side.

As soon as you feel comfortable to do so. Everyone is different. I was able to sleep on my stomach the same evening as surgery.

I have slept on my side's and stomach. My nurse actually told me that laying on your left side helps to move the gas out. So I sleep with a body pillow supporting my back and between my knee's and try to put a heating pad on low over my belly for a bit. Hope you sleep better soon.

I was 16 days out, I had terrible side pain it felt like broken ribs. Finally I bought a heating pad and took more gas x this seemed to help. When I started taking probotics the pain was less painful. I was also sleeping in a recliner for awhile, now I am sleeping on the futon and still have some pain, but can sleep on my side. I called my doc and he said it will just take time, so I am still waiting. Good luck hopefully you feel better soon.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
