Getting around after surgery

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Jan. 14 and I have to return to school on Jan. 21! I am determined to do this. Any advice would be appreciated.

It really depends on the person. You should be fine. I went back to work 3 days after surgery but I have a sedentary job so wasn't a big deal. I didn't feel great the first 3 days or so but was getting around easily. If your recovery is anything like mine you will be ok as long as you prepare and have everything on hand (protein drinks/shakes, Water, etc)

No problem if your recovery is similar to mine.

Honestly, I couldn't have done it. I'm usually so tough and thought I would be back at work in a few days, but there was no way. I had my sleeve on December 19, and I'm not going back until January 14. There were days I was just SO fatigued, and taking a shower required me to rest for 2 hours, lol. I did have a post op infection, which I'm sure contributed to this, but it's about healed now. Today is the first day I've felt pretty good since my surgery.

I know lots of people do go back to work in a few days, and I hope you can be one of them, but it doesn't hurt to consider plan B in case it doesn't work out that way.

Good luck!

I think a lot depends on your diet. I was on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks and was really weak the second week. I couldn't have done it. However, those who were allowed Protein Shakes, seemed to have more energy.

I return to work Jan 21.... I asked for 2 additional weeks considering im on my feet all day with children. I was sleeved on Dec. 28 i have been fatigue and my incisions are painful. I am thankful to be home for 2 weeks and today i purchased a abdominal binder because my biggest incision is soooo painful and i struggle sleeping/walking/ etc. I love the new energy i feel! i feel so light !!! the best is yet to come just have to get over the initial stages of the surgery. Best wishes to you!

Good point! I was allowed soft foods after one week. Maybe that is why I was able to be out and about so quickly.

I'm having my sleeve on the 17 and have booked 5 weeks off to make sure i can handle working on my feet for 8-10 hour days. I also lift heavy pots and boxes. I think every person reacts diffrently and you just have to wait and see.

I was back at work 6 days after surgery. I think you will be fine if you follow your doctor's advice. Walk everyday even if you don't feel like it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
