Weight loss questions ?

Recommended Posts

I have lost 105 lbs in 4 1/2 months. Which is an awesome feeling ! my

question is starting off at 400 lbs. how much can I expect to lose. Is it likes certain amount that the sleeve allow you to lose or percentage ?? Just wondering ??

my mom said she thought the doctor said I Would only lose 150 then I would have to have another surgery if I wanted to lose more. I mean what else can I do but cut the other stomach out.

they give the percentages based on averages. be above average! :) my surgeon told me that my goal of achieving 220 or less was 'lofty' but with hard work, it could be done. i started at 373 (i'm only 5'6") i was a 56" waist and a 5-6x shirt. now, 6 months later i am still only 5'6" (i was hoping i'd get taller too) but i am 215 and wear 34" waist and 1-2x shirt.

i know we get sick of hearing it, but the sleeve is your tool. how much and how wisely you use your tool will determine your success. and based on averages, it only takes 1 person getting a 10-20% to blow your average. shoot for your 80-100% and let the chips fall where they may. i have been shooting to lose 198. i've lost 160 and am only 6 months out. my lofty goal could well become my wonderful reality. but honestly, if i never lose another pound but am able to maintain my current weight, i will consider vsg successful, because now, i feel like a new man.

shoot for the stars, i hope you make it!

It seems I read somewhere that the sleeve was originally suppose to be the first step now before bypass. Especially if you have alot to loose. But then again I could be wrong. But so could they.....and you may loose more than you ever thought you could. Best wishes!!!!

The sleeve is the first step of duodenum switch.

You can go on to have regular bypass if you need it. 75-80% of your excess weight is the average weight loss. This is just an average, it includes the people who don't follow diet/exercise, and those who turn into diet/exercise fanatics. Just do everything in your power to reach and beat the average! Good luck

I underestimated what we can do with this 'tool'. You've had approx. 85% of your tummy removed, permanently. It's not sectioned off, it's not a 'pouch'. It's GONE. The sky is the limit if you work it. At the seminar we were told, this is not a diet, it's a way of life. That's fine and dandy, but until I reached goal, I treated it as the most important, serious diet of my life!!! I wasn't hungry, so it was easy really. I am 31 months out and I still, most of the time when I'm home, will weigh or measure my food. Until I reached goal, I rarely ate any bread, none at home and only a nibble if we were out. I ordered dinner out, without added butter (they brush butter on almost everything) I never had a bite of anything fried, NOTHING sweet at all. I started getting all my Protein in within 2 months and I kept up the Protein. I was fanatical about sleeve surgery and being successful. I had two goals, one, to lose weight, two, NOT to lose my hair. Mission accomplished. If you approach this like I did, or similar, then you can lose to a healthy BMI, I'm sure of it!!! Good luck!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
