Band removal and sleeve in one surgery or two?

Recommended Posts

Can the band be taken out and the sleeve done in one surgery or are they done separately? I am changing insurance in January and will be scheduling a consult ASAP but the thought crossed my mind tonight so I thought I would ask. Thanks!

Depends on your surgeon, I've heard it going both ways. Some wait a few months and others have them both done at the same time.

Mine was done together, Dr told me up front it may take a little longer as he had to undo all the band garbage but no need for 2 surgeries. I almost 4 weeks out and I feel like a million bucks. Good luck to you!

My surgeon did both at the same time as well as repair my hernia. I feel great!

Mine was done in a single procedure. I was warned that it might have to be 2 but my surgeon was able to do it in 1.

I'm doing it one surgery.

I had to do mine in two separate procedures more than six months apart, but I also had an eroded band which needed time to heal before proceeding with the next surgery.

I was banded on 12/21/10, on 12/28/12 the band was removed and the sleeve done. No removal of Fluid prior (finding the port was like 'Marco polo'). I'm two weeks out and getting better everyday. Good Luck!

Much depends on if you have complications from the band as well as how long you've had the band. I'm hoping to do mine in one step (had it a bit over 5 years so fingers crossed). I have had the fill removed and have to go on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior. My dr. says this is to minimize any inflammation in the stomach.

Had mine done in one surgery - band removal/sleeve, hernia repair, gall bladder removal and adhesions taken down.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
