Hi, I am new today to this forum. I have been on my journey since May 2012. That's when I went to the Seminar. I had to get 6 months in with the dietician before my health insuance would cover it. I had my 1st Appt with Dr. Eagon, out of St Louis and have change my mind from a Lap Band to the Sleeve. My 6 months ended in December has been submitted to my doctor who just told me it is with the Insurance biller in their office. So the 4-6 week wait for that begins. In the meantime, I started at 376lbs and am now at 331 lbs, which if very encourgaging in itself. :D The doctor's office now wants me on a 1400 calorie diet and to start exercising. This I am having some struggle with. I can't seem to put MYSELF FIRST! Which has always been a problem for me. If there are any helpful suggestions for this please feel free to let me know.

I have been told that once the Insurance approves (hopefully) the surgery, it won't be scheduled until at least May or June 2013, So you see, I still have a ways to go.

Here's hoping I can find new friends who are on the same journey or have gone thru the same, because I need all the encourgement I can get.

why so long from approval to actual surgery? That seems excessive. I got my Insurance approval Dec 12 and had surgery Dec 24.

Hi! I am going to have my srgery on January 14! I actually started the process about two years ago and then my insurance ended their contract with the doctor and it was not until September that I could start again but the process has been pretty fast. Before I saw my doctor I lost 13 lbs. so I was at 337 and he said I need to lose 20 more befor surgery. AT my last weigh in I was at about 322 but with Christmas I think I may have gained a bit. I will weigh myself in a little bit to see. I start my twq weeks of liquid diet tomorrow so if anyone has any ideas about making it interesting I am all ears.

I can so relate to this statement. I have always had this problem and still struggle with it. I've ben putting myself last for so long that it has become a habit. I think this surgery is a great first step. I'm self pay and almost cancelled a few times because of the guilt of spending this kind of money on myself. But I know I am the only person who can put myself first.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far - that's great! I've only been sleeved for 10 days. For me it's not an issue of putting myself first or not - it's that I HATE exercise. I know I have to change this fast if I want to get healthy. I'm open to suggestions as well!

Congrats on the weight loss thus far, that is awesome! Have you considered doing some kind of water-based exercise that is easy on the joints etc. and would require you to pencil in time for yourself given that most people don't own an indoor pool? :) Just a thoguht. Swimming exercise appeals to me because you don't sweat like at the gym on the machines etc.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
