Help With New Dr...Please

Recommended Posts

:help: I have had my band one year this month. I have done everything WRONG you could possibly do during this time! Needless to say I have not lost much weight but my eating disorder has thrived. I stopped seeing my Dr for several reasons..I did not care for him and he was 3 hours away. I probably did not care for him because he was not going to buy into my B.S.! Anyway I have been having problems with my band...PBing and getting sick right after meals and it's been getting bad so I found a new Dr. Let me preface this by saying I have been doing alot of work with my therapist the past 6 months and I really feel I am ready to commit to the band now! I now know it's only a tool and only as good as my choices. What questions or subjects should I bring up with my new Dr? My appt is Tues at 10 am. Any advice will be helpful! I really want this to work this time!

Hi Terrilen,

Sorry you didn't get any responses the first time. Try, try again!

What sorts of things do you think need addressing? If you know what you did wrong, you know what NOT to do this time. Being able to isolate your bad behaviors is the first step towards changing them. But you know that.

Talk to your doctor honestly and ask him what he tells his brand-new bandsters. Approach it as though you were just banded yourself, and take it one step at a time. Good luck!!

I agree with Alex, ask for the new bandsters program. My follow-up doctor offers 3,6,9,12 and 18 month classes for all WLS patients. They are quick 45 min sessions with him or the nutritionist. I have learned a ton from these meetings. Also ask for the food guidelines that they reccomend. I know my doc limits carbs until you are at 80% to goal. See if they offer a support group, most do, they can be very helpful. Also continue to visit here, we can be a big help too. Hope all goes well tomorrow, Mandy

i would also ask the doc. to get on me if i start slacking. For example say you are to see him/her once a month and you skip a month. Ask him/her to have the secretary call you until you come in. It would prob. stink but it would keep you on the program. Goodluck this time around and you can do this.

First, I admire the fact that you are doing the work that it takes to get yourself better. I feel the more that you don't avoid the surgeons, counselors, support group, and nutritionist the better you will do. When we are held accountable, it often keeps us on track (not perfect).

You sound ready. Don't forget your support. Don't expect perfection, but stay on track. YOu are doing great.

Shawn

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
