Okay, so here goes. I had Gastric Sleeve surgery on December 13, 2012. It took me many years to admit I was not able to lose weight on my own. After 4 different doctors recommended weight loss surgery, I met with Dr. Daryl Stewart on November 9. He recommended VSG for me.

I still have not admitted to most of my friends or any of my family that I had the surgery. My husband is super supportive, as are the very few friends who are aware I had the procedure done.

The holidays were a little tough, but overall I have done well, except for a gas-y stomach making it hard to swallow anything - including Water. I spend my waking moments trying to get enough water down to keep from being dehydrated.

I added PhaZyme to my meals today, after reading some posts on this site, and it seems to be helping. I was the most comfortable I have been since surgery this afternoon.

I have never been much of a "joiner", but finally had to admit that I need the support of people traveling a similar journey. I lost 18 pounds prior to surgery, and have since lost 15 pounds.

So, keep posting, everyone. You never know when one of your posts helps someone else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
