8 weeks out and feeling doubt...

Recommended Posts

You are doing great. Just keep focusing on the positive... how much better your clothes fit, how many sizes you're down, how much longer you can work out, etc. The numbers aren't the full story.

We all go through periods where the scale just doesn't cooperate. My longest stall was 6 weeks and I finally had to have my hubby hide the scale because I was driving myself batty.

Your doctor sounds like a ******! Ignore him! Just keep working that sleeve.

At 8 weeks, measure your food and don't go over the recommended amount (1/2 cup or so). Your body isn't healed yet and doesn't know it's full until it's overfull.

Loose at your own pace - it is your body and this is not a miracle solution to all the issues of food and weight loss.

Don't loose your confidence and don't stress over all of this - stress is a deterent for weight loss.

Good thoughts for a heathy weight loss.

I am down to 210 from 258... which sounds like a lots but I think my god I have to get with it... I know I didn't do all this for 40 lbs.... still can't really eat anything but sweets... ya I said sweets... I imagin if I was eating better I would feel better and would have lost more.. I am determinded tho WE can do this...

Shelbell12 we are in the same boat. I was sleeved 11/19. I'm down 35 lbs. The problem is I can still barely eat - although I can eat sweets/carbs with no problem. I had no idea how hard it was going to be. Good for me food makes me sick. It's so frustrating. I know this will get easier but for now, regret does seep in sometimes.

Your dr. Was no doubt rude! You said you have been working out and your clothes fit better, so the scale may not be showing it but ur body is! Remember that your are exercising to tone and build muscle and muscle weighs too! Just think of it as getting rid of fat and replacing it with muscle! Keep up the good work!

You guys are so helpful...thank you... My doc has the bedside manner of Dr. Gregory House... I dont like him at all, but he is the guy my insurance covers... I weigh every Monday and saw a loss today and feel better... This is HARD... Anyone who thinks this is an easy solution has no idea of how hard the behavior modification is... I throw up if I eat one bite too much...and right now, dont always recognize the full cue.

Don't eat until you're full. Eat until you're not hungry!! That will help because you're goal shouldn't be to feel full or stuffed after each meal. If you feel full, you've already eaten to much.

It happens Shellbell. I haven't even gotten sleeved yet and have been ditched by some of my fuller figured friends. I think some people feel that our weight issues was one of the major attributes that bonded us and now that wont be the case. I think what they fail to realize is there are so many other things that make us friends but they have a hard time seeing past the loss of weight.

You have found some new friends here Shell! We are here to support each other ;-)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
