There's a lot of varying information for a LOT of things regarding the sleeve - it seems like no one doctor is the same as another. One thing I'm most curious about is your program's take on NSAIDs after the sleeve.

My clinic just started offering the sleeve not too long ago, and they still treat it like RNY - same pre/post-op rules, same dietary recommendations, etc. Recognizing that fact, I have kind of cobbled together my own plan (that is working) from my own research here and other places.

Being that my clinic treats VSG just like RNY, I am in the group that the program says no NSAIDs, ever, ever again. Just like no carbonation and no drinking through a straw....

I've been fighting my first cold virus since surgery over the past couple of days, and the wonder drug that is AlkaSeltzer Plus (aside from being fizzy) is an NSAID. I'm hoping to garner a majority, or at least collect different schools of thought on the whole NSAID thing to see if it should, logically, be part of a post-op VSG lifestyle.

I was told NOT to take them. HOWEVER...when a problem arises somewhere in my body that desperately calls for ibuprofen...I call the office and they say to take ONE maybe once or twice and that's IT. As little as possible. Their general position though, is no. So...somewhere in between. Steroids are a big NOOOOO as well. I have two docs on that one. :/

My doctor says no NSAID for 6 months. I am counting down the days un January second when I can take my NSAID for foot and back pain. He also said he six month window is where you have the greatest chance of developing an ulcer along the sleeve line if not careful with NSAID and *always* take it with a PPI if you must before 6 months are up.

Be very careful of your intake of Celebrex, can cause cardiac problems.

I take prescription strength NSAIDS twice a day every day for arthritis, with my surgeon's blessings. I have since about two or three weeks out. That is one of the primary reasons I chose to be sleeved.

My doc is one who recommends the use of NSAIDs, even shortly after surgery if necessary. NSAID tolerance is one of the fundamental advantages of the sleeve (and the DS, which uses the sleeve as its basis,) over the RNY, and has been successfully used in appealing insurance decisions favoring the RNY over the DS.

For those who are stuck with the "no NSAIDs" instruction from their docs and looking for valid alternate opinions, one direction of research that can be done is to investigate the recommendations of surgeons who have been doing DSs and sleeves for a number of years - a good listing of such docs can be found at dsfacts.com.

I am just recovering from glandular fever. If anybody ever wanted NSAIDs, it was me. Surgeon said no so I took paracetamol with codeine, which made me vomit. I ended up taking only bed rest and fluids. And cool showers to bring down the fever.

My doctor said if needed to take them sparingly and always make sure to pair with your ppi. I have only taken ibuprofen four times or so since surgery, twice of those times was within the past week due to knee inflammation from working out. Man my knees felt so much better afterwards! Lol

My doc never mentioned whether or not I could take them, however, I just finished a steroid pack and am on Celebrex. Im 9 weeks out.

I take ibuprofen a couple times per week. Unfortunately Tylenol doesn't help my headaches!

I was just prescribed tramadol..

A pain Med....my surgeon ok'd it!
