they were banded?? I was curious to see how soon you started working out after being banded? Other than mild strolls around the block.

I had my two week followup appointment today. I told him I have been walking and he thought that was great. He gave me the okay to resume with Irish Dance. So, I will start up tomorrow.

He said going ahead and exercising is the best thing you can do.

I went for a 3km walk the day I came home from hospital, did that every day for a few weeks and then got back onto the elliptical machine at the gym. About 3 months later I tried my first run and the rest is history, I'm an 8km a day girl now!

I am walking a couple miles a day and some days adding an exercise video in the afternoon. My doc said no weight lifting for 3 months and no aerobics classes are stomach crunches for the first 2 months. I'm actually looking forward to Water aerobics.

I am 4 weeks out and started back at the gym last week. I am going 4x a week and today started working with a trainer. I am working with weights combined with cardio. I was told to wait 3 weeks before starting an exercise program and 3 months before any abdominal exercises. It feels great to be out and moving again.

It's amazing to me what different doctors say. I wonder if my age makes a difference, because I still get very tired. I guess I better just push myself a little harder!

I was banded Oct. 12, 2006. I was told to wait 1 week before trying to exercise. It has been 3 weeks, and to tell you the truth I dont have the energy to do it yet. I'm not sure if its the liquad diet or something else. I hope to be getting stronger soon. Has anyone else had this problem?

Katina: I was banded 9-6-06 and I still don't have the energy that I had before surgery. I am doing better, however, every day. I do think that it is the lower calories and the punishment that our bodies have under gone. You're doing great with your weight loss! Just be patient and begin a gentle walking program.

Thanks, that makes me feel alot better. I have only lost 10 lbs since being banded. I lost the rest of it doing the pre surgery diet. I think Im doing okay with it. I guess I wasnt prepared for all of the negative comments I was going to receive. I have had so many people staring at me..etc.... so many wanting to know if I had my intestines "cut up".......I even had one woman tell me I just cheated, she thought I should be exercising instead of surgery...people sometimes surprise you I guess....

Thanks again, I appreciate it!!!

Today I went walking and after 2 blocks, my legs felt like Jello. I had to walk very slowly and take breaks and got home and had a Protein shake,,,that helped. I hope I can feel normal again in a couple of days...walk several blocks...

I've been walking and otherwise goofing off. Monday is 2 weeks post surgery and I'm headed for the treadmill and anything else aerobic. Not allowed to lift weights for 3 months.......

Per my Dr. I was allowed to start exercising 3 weeks post surgery EXCEPT for abdominal crunches that has to wait until 3 months.

At the end of my 3 weeks I joined Curves and have gone there 3 times aweek since and I walk 2 miles one other day a week.. the other 3 days I work an 11 hour shift so that's enough exercise on those days..

I found that I really look forward to my Curves days and feel good after I finsh my workout...

I even think it is working .. I was banded on 9/28 and I am now down 30-32 lbs. (depends on the scale, the time of day and how much clothing I have on..

Have fun...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
