Anyone else binge before they had surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am less than two weeks from surgery and find myself trying to eat everything that I know I won't be able to after surgery... am I mental? Of did anyone else feel this way or do this?

Feedback...

Keep it real please. Thank you.

I only had a three day liquid diet with surgery tomorrow. The dietician told me that the thing people miss most post-surgery are fresh fruits and vegetables, so on Wednesday, I had a Greek salad with shrimp. I ate grilled fish tacos on Thursday (day before liquid diet) because that is another favorite. I love the crunch of the cabbage on the fish. I also ate one dessert on Thursday night. I think I was pretty restrained, but what you are saying is what I was thinking. "I'm not going to have ____for a long time if ever, so I would like to enjoy it one more time." The only thing I did not eat that I love is pizza. l wish I could have had one more slice.

In a way, I felt like a prisoner having his "last meal."

I am currently on a very strict 3 month diet (or until I have lost 60 lbs). After this diet I will meet with my NUT to start a 4 week pre-opt diet. I have decided that I am going to take one day to enjoy each of my favorite meals. For Breakfast I want a breakfast burrito, for lunch I want cheese sticks, and for dinner I want pizza. I have a feeling I'm probably going to feel bad after that (physically because I'm putting things in my body I haven't been use to lol).

I still think that all food can be made in a healthy way. None of the things have to be forever off your eating list, but you may need to make them a little differently. I really love raw fruits and vegetables. I think normally it takes a long time to work back to things like that (with all the chewing, etc), but I still want to believe that I will be able to eat a Tomato again. The main reason I feel like I need surgery is the hope that I can re-learn how to eat smaller portions of things.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
