Sushi Success! Woo-hooo!

Recommended Posts

I am five weeks post-op and I just had one appetizer cheese roll and one piece of my son's Dragon Roll (cooked sushi) for lunch. No problem! I was so afraid I would not be able to eat sushi again because of the rice. I ate the whole piece and didn't have any problems. Yay!

Yay! I was worried about this. Hopefully my sleeve accepts it as well!

I loved sushi pre-sleeve too so I was really worried about this. Thankfully, I also have no problems with sushi post-op and I still eat it a couple of times a month :)

I had some edemame and two pieces of nigiri for supper last week. I ended up getting rid of the rice. Next time I will get the sashimi. Rice still isn't working for me very well. I LOVE Japanese.

This was one of the most exciting moments since I was sleeved. At two months out from surgery on my birthday I went and had sushi. I could only eat 3 pieces but it was one of the happiest moments thus far. It is so nice that we can still enjoy our most favorite foods!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
