Surgery scheduled! Normal to feel like I want to eat like a pig until then?

Recommended Posts

I had to do a pre-op of 6 days under 1,000 calories, then 3 days liquids. The week before that was a food and alcohol filled fun fest and I don't regret it one bit! I lost all I gained plus more on the pre-op so I still went into surgery lower than I started!

No.. My doctor makes patients be at a certain goal weight before they will even schedule the surgery. And they weigh you at every appointment leading up to the surgery. If you're even an ounce over your goal weight they reschedule your surgery. On the day of surgery you also have to be at or below goal weight once you're in the hospital gown. If not they will not do the surgery. You're not doing yourself any favors by eating all of that food before your surgery. It is just more weight you will have to lose afterwards. Think twice before you chow down.

Not only that, but eating all your favorites in abundance before surgery may make it that much harder to give up foods after surgery. Believe me, it is not easy to do this for some. A suggestion might be to gradually ease your way out of sugars, high starch, high carb, high fat and high sodium foods 1-2 months before surgery. By the time surgery comes around, you will be free of the temptations ( in theory). food funerals might be helpful if only they make you sick of the food so you don't want them post-op. I would recommend the former because it is healthier and better on your emotional state. Just my two cents.

I'm only craving the foods I didn't get to party with before my pre-op diet. The others I feel satiated after once last binge. Just me I guess.

And if I could have spent months weaning myself off foods I like, I wouldn't have needed the surgery. God knows I tried like a zillion times!

YES. Exactly what suepeeps said. I only had a 3 day pre-op diet but I got to where I no longer wanted food and starting the pre-op early was so easy and I felt great going in. But yep... I pigged out and did the food funeral and gained weight so watch yourself

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
