Post op liquid diet question

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery Dec 4 and I started my full liquid diet 2 days ago. I have been doing everything they have said… eat slow, 500-700 cals, 65 or more grams of Protein and 64 oz of Fluid. The problem I am having is from the broth and other things I have been taking in, I have never felt "full" yet. Is this normal? Is/did anyone experience this too? Did it change when you switched to solids/mushy food? ? Maybe I am over thinking it. Thanks for the help.

Lace, you will start to feel 'full' restriction soon, but on liquids it's hard to, because your polyvoric valve isn't closed with liquids. Don't worry, this is normal. Once you move to soft food and solid Proteins, you will be AMAZED how quickly you feel and get 'full'. Even now though (I had surgery Nov 3rd) I don't feel 'full' the same way. Before, i would feel full in my belly, now I feel full in my throat/chest, and it's more of a feeling of discomfort than a 'good' full feeling. Don't worry, what you are feeling now is COMPLETELY normal! ;) Congrats on starting your journey!

Thank you so much for the response! I am just worried this isn't going to work for me still even though it's done lol. Cause nothing has worked for me in the past obviously. So I think it might just be that worry.

One thing that might 'help' is try blending some ice with your Protein Shakes, it will make them thicker, and it will take you much longer to drink them, but you will get the 'full' feeling fast since the thickness will close your valve partially. Blending your Protein with ice won't hurt you either, but it may help you to begin to feel full if you're curious about the sensation. The thicker/more solid the food you put in, the more you feel the 'full' feeling and faster.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
