Anyone experience sharp pain above belly button. The doctors office informed me that they put a stitch there to prevent hernia. But I still have pain...is this normal? I have eaten a few soft foods only because I was out of town where I could not get to a Protein shake...I'm scared I created a leak or something....please tell me pain is normal?!!! So worried....

I am 7 days post op and have only had liquids everyday. The stitching above my belly button is Still the worst for pain. In fact it is the only one that hurts. I feel like it is also closest to where the tummy is inside so that whole area is sensitive.

I'm 3 weeks out (today). Still a little sore in the area above the navel and between the bottom incision and where my drain was. Its better than it was, but still sore.

I was very sore for 4 weeks. Incredibly sore, actually. It hurt to move, bend and even sit. My surgeon told me that he felt I had a pulled or "sprained" muscle. I'm 5 weeks out now, and the pain is gone...so I think he was right!

Yea I was actually doing pretty good pain wise for a couple days but the last couple of days I have hurt alot. Yesterday it felt like a pulling pain which I spoke to the nurse and she said that was normal. And that I would probably have that pain for up to 6 month's. But now it's a sharp pain definitely above the naval

Had severe pain in all those areas for about 3 weeks. For the past 2 days it's been slowly abating...I've heard that it's common to last 4 or sometimes even 6 weeks.

Re a leak, I'm pretty sure (and keep in mind I'm not a doc) that's not where you'd feel the pain. You should be conscious of pain on the left side of your chest, in the arm and under the breastbone - that's where your stomach is.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
