Could my sleeve have stretched already?

Recommended Posts

I am only 12 days out of surgery & I'm concerned that my sleeve may be stretched already. Is that possible??? Up until today I have followed the Dr.'s directions perfectly. Getting in plenty of Water. As a matter of fact I was on strictly water for the first week. This past week I have been allowed 3 Protein Shakes a day as well as water. I have been VERY hungry the past two days. Today I ate BariWise pudding. It has 15g of Protein & almost no fat or carbs. I ate one serving (a 1oz package mixed with 4oz of water). It went down easily. I didn't have any problems getting it down rather quickly & I am still hungry! I'm concerned that somehow my sleeve may have somehow been stretched already. Anyone have any input or similar experiences?

This sounds like what I went through and it was more head hunger you have not stretched your sleeve .

It seems like you can take alot when you are on the liquid diet. But as soon as you start the mushy food you will see that is not going to be the case after that. Don't worry, you haven't stretched anything and the surgery was successful. Alot of us have felt the same as you do right now.

Thanks. I guess I really don't consider pudding as a liquid so I was pretty concerned. It is certainly much thicker than a Protein Shake. so, this is not uncommon?

I agree-puddings, yogurt and creamed Soup went down pretty good-still does. I could drink 1/4-1/2 cup. But food like chicken, eggs, potatoes-I can only eat 3-4 spoonfulls. Tonight I had. chicken cutlet (lightly breaded, oven baked) and I had a piece the size of my thumb, a tablespoon of rice-a-roni and a tablespoon of corn. I would love to eat more, but the discomfort of over eating isn't worth it! I still need one shake a day to get 60-80 grams if Protein in.

No, not uncommon at all. I could get a good amount down too but once I started the soft food it dropped off dramatically. I was shocked at how much I was not able to get down then. When you do start the soft food, eat slow, and put the fork or spoon down between bites. This will help you take your time to know if you are full. Believe me, you don't want to be swallowing another bite when you discover you have reached your limit. LOL

A couple other things to note, especially if you physically feel something when you call it hunger (and not just head hunger). I've learned the hard way that the stomach will do some things that mimic the feeling of a REALLY hungry stomach. If you physically feel hungry, make sure it's not gas, stomach acid, or esophageal spasms. The last is physically painful, but the other two are just that annoying "I need to eat" feeling, regardless of if you really do or not.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
