So I just started my pre op journey three weeks ago and have been getting all the information and tests done to get ready for surgery...I am 3 weeks into my mandatory 16 week nutrition class which means I wont be eligible for surgery until March. I am excited and ready to improve my life. I only have one concern and that is if my skin will go back to normal or will it be saggy??? Anyways best of luck to everyone on here we all are trying to reach a common goal and that's to live a healthy and prosperous life!!!!!

I had my surgery Dec 3,2012. I feel great! Congrats on your journey, March will be here before you know it. While you are waiting, research, watch Youtube videos and empowerer yourself with all the knowledge you can. To answer your question it depends on how much weight you have to lose. Of course if its a lot then you will have lose skin. The key is to exercise before and after surgery. Even if its just walk to tone your muscles. I am going to buy me some weights, 5lbs to tone my arms. I had batwings before the surgery lol. Everyone skin is different. If you have excess skin you can get surgery a year after VGS to get it removed and some insurance pays a fraction of it. At first that was my fear too, but now that I have had the surgery and feel so much better that, I am movitated to exercise and tone up. I do not believe I will have a lot of sag but some due to low BMI 34.9. So stop stressing, and best of luck on this healthy journey.

I am too looking at March for a possible surgery date! I am in a 6 month program requiring 4 consecutive month pre op classes then pre op testing before surgery. I plan to do some toning and factor in weight lifting, and Protein Rich food, Vitamin E , skin brush to exfoliate when I can to combat sagging skin. And hydration. This certainly a journey a worth while.

Happy Journey and Good luck!

Good luck to all of you! The months will fly, believe it or not. Regarding excess skin, there are a lot of factors. Genetics and how long you've been obese are the two major ones. I've been overweight most of my life so I'll definitely need plastics. But right now I'm concentrating on doing everything I can to tone and tighten.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
