How Long Will It Take For The Pain To Go Away

Recommended Posts

I am 19 days post op and I am still in pain in the right side where my stomach was removed. How long does it take for the pain to go away so I can really get my work out on like Zumba and lift and carry my 25lb 2 year old?

I was told 6 weeks before I can lift, push, and/or carry 10 lbs

I had no pain after I left the hospital. I can't lift more than 25lbs for 5 weeks.

I think everyone is different, but I am about six weeks out now and I had considerable pain on my right side until a few days ago. I over did it a few times and I am sure I extended the healing period. My advice, looking back, take it easy. And one day you will wake up and it will be gone. Take it ready that day too. :)

I just asked this question a day ago and I just had my surgery on the 11/28. I'm having a lot of pain on my right also!!! It's really pulling! When I hear people say they have no pain it's crazy to me. When I'm sitting I'm totally fine though. I haven't taken pain meds so that could be part of it.

Sounds like everyone's body's are different. We all will get through it one way or another...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
