My nutritionist and surgeon have both said NO ALCOHOL for at least six months and even after that, it must be "skinny" cocktails and "light" beers, etc. At 6 weeks I'd double check it with your surgeon and nutritionist as I know different practices say different things.

Good luck!

I had a wine cooler on Thanksgiving, it was strawberry daiquiri flavor. I'm 8 weeks post op and my doc says it's best to avoid but I didn't see a timeline in my folder. My advice is don't go overboard but one drink I'm sure wouldn't hurt. Come to find out I thought the wine cooler was very sweet and didn't enjoy it all that much. I'm more of a vodka kinda person but I probably wont drink that until I'm a little closer to goal.

I just had my two month appt a couple of weeks ago and my NUT told me physically i was OK, but to be real careful,,dead calories and high sugar and carbs in alcohol. Plus you will be a real cheap date as you haven't had anything in a long time. We also tend to make bad food choices when we drink. I have had a couple of really small (2oz) of wine and one mixed drink (no carbonated beverage). and had no problems, but it definately hits you. Remember one 1oz of red wine has 25 calories, so one glass at a resturant is 4oz which equals 100 calories, which is a tenth of the calories at your stage. plus you should only be taking in 30-40 carbs per day. Hope this helps. Good Luck

I had my surgery nov 5th and my 21st birthday was nov 12th. I was dying for a drink, this past Sunday I bought a margarita at Disney California Adventure and only drank about 1/4 then threw it out. I felt okay after though. Probably wont have another for a couple months lol

Each person is differnt. My doctor is really strict no alchool for 6 months. I have also heard that when you do drink the first time should be at home because it could really hit you. I miss drinking but I am going to hold out for the 6 months or longer. You may take a few sips and not even want it.

I'm waiting for six months because I have never stuck with anything and I need to do this... Also alcohol is going to be SO strong at that point of having nothing. It's gonna be a great party lol

I had 2 glasses of wine at a wedding 7 weeks out and was fine. 8 weeks out I went on a cruise and had a few drinks most nights and was OK.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
