Calling All The Guys

Recommended Posts

so i got my date of January 8th and of course i am wicked nervous, also a little excited. i've already lost a good 10 lbs......i start my liquid diet on 12/8/12.

i am hoping to lose at least a total of 20-25lbs before surgery.

anways. right now im like 360lbs but i am really strong. like i can bench 200lbs and squat probably 250lbs believe it or not. i was a big eater and drinker. i could crush a lot of food.< /p>

1/2lb burgers fries rings and half of my wifes burgers. plus a few cokes and a few beers. i was like a bottomless pitt. honestly.

my question is, after this surgery in January, how am i going to feel? i know the 1st month or 2 will suck. im talking like 6 months out,. will i feel weak? or strong? energized or lazy bc i havent eaten. can i lift weights at the gym or will i feel too tired.

can anyone drink beer(s) ?

eat a burger or steak ?

just curious.

I am 5'6". I started this year at 373 lbs. I was sleeved on June 5th and this morning, my scale said I am 219.

I also was a bottomless pit. Once, I had a contest with buddies at Quaker steak all you can eat wing night, and I won by eating 64 wings at one sitting. Then, after the ride home, I had desert. So, I feel ya on that.

The 1st month does kinda suck. I was very fortunate and had the picture perfect recovery. No complications at all. Not everyone has it that smooth, so, be ready, mentally, just in case. My advice is start walking everyday once you get home from the hospital. Even if it's just to the corner and back a couple times. Then go farther as you are able. Don't rush the 'workouts' or you risk hurting yourself. Give it about 6-8 weeks before you do actual workouts, and start over like you're just beginning so you don't hurt yourself.

I'm about 6 months post op now, and I do circuit training. I have more energy and stamina on my 800-900 calories a day than I ever did on the 6000 I used to do.

I like my burgers still, though typically I do turkey or ground chicken burgers, but bread is still not really my friend, so I usually cut out a piece of flatout bread for my bun.

I tried steak for the first time post op in august, and I didn't have a problem with it, so I have one whenever I want.

As far as beer goes, not for me. I don't do soda or beer, so I have no firsthand advice on that, but have been told after 6 months, small amounts are possible. Just remember, beer has like 200-300 calories, so, make that decision on if it's worth it for yourself.

All I can say is, I feel great now. My goal was to be between 175-220. I hit the top end of my goal today at about 6 months out, and I feel like I got my life back. I'm not tired, weak or lazy. Ok, some days I'm lazy, but, that's not surgery related. But, yeah, feels great.

Hey the oldmusicboxyhanks for sharing. Amy problems with exces skin? You droped pretty quick

a little bit, yeah. but that's the price i have to pay for getting to 373. it's not so bad most days, but, then some days, you just feel like a deflated balloon :) i seriously doubt that a person can drop this much without some excess skin, but, i believe that the circuit training has made it better than it could have been. you HAVE to do some kind of toning workout, or you will end up looking like a sharpei dog. i don't think you gotta go nuts with it, but, if you don't do something, it will be bad.

as for me, i'll take the little bit of deflated balloon that i have, over the balloon about to pop that i used to be :)

good luck

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
