Help With Head Hunger

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 3 weeks post op. I'm never really "hungry" but the "head hunger" is killing me. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to overcome them? Does it get any easier with time?

I'm out 3 years and still have tons of head hunger. . . it's a real bad demon. i find that keeping myself busy during the day is the best. . it's the night that kills me mostly. . . but then i try to do other things like get onto this forum or play games etc. . . it's really tough and this one is hard to battle. . . but together we can do it. . .

I'm 2 1/2 years out and it never goes away, but you do learn coping mechanisms and therapeutic ways of dealing; I too like to keep busy, like crazy busy, during the day and I agree that it is the nights (if you are alone) that are the worst. Some things/tricks I do include staying as busy or as social as I can until as late as possible, packing lunches and prepping breakfasts the night before, never having cash (to better resist a run to a quickie mart), having only food that requires a lot of effort to prepare in the house (raw materials for cooking rather than pre-made), a wide variety of teas, and cases of naturally flavored unsweetened carbonated Water. My gym activities keep me busy through the early evenings, prepping for the next day takes up some more time, and if I make a large hot mug of tea and drink that or peel a fiberous beneficial pomegranate during a DVD or while reading a book, it takes care of my desire to mindlessly slurp/munch while relaxing. If I pre-plan all of my Snacks and lunch, and again make sure I have no cash (vending machines), that takes care of the work day.

This must sound grim, I'm sorry, I'm sure it wouldn't have to be so regimented if I was in therapy :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
