Drinking Alcohal...

Recommended Posts

Okay so I know we are not suppose to ever drink again according to the doctors and dieticians because its empty calories and you apprently get drunk quicker. Can anyone who had this surgery a while ago tell me when its okay to try something? Im not a huge drinker anyways but I use to go out like 2 times a month with my friends to the bar and have a few drinks and im just wondering when I could try that again and how much can a sleeve patient drink and what should I drink? Any recommendations would be awesome!

I was told you can drink 1 year from date of surgery. You could drink before that (I believe 6 months) but since the lst year is when the most weight loss occurs, I will wait.

There are two parts to this question - the first you already know which relates to impact on weight loss. Empty calories are not the best idea.

The second part is - will it kill your stomach?

I went to an anniversary party about 4 months post op and had maybe, maybe 2 oz of red wine if that much. It did not feel good on my tummy.

At about 8 months post op, I went on a camping trip and had a mixed drink and it was no problem.

Since then I have had the occasional mixed drink (maybe 1 or 2?) with no problem.

Thanksgiving will include wine so I will see how it hits me tomorrow, as I intend to at least taste.

I know everybody says you get drunk really fast - honestly I haven't noticed that. Then again, the quantities I have had are pretty modest so perhaps that is the reason?

Thank you for responding. I think I may just try one drink tonight and that's all to see how I do. I don't wanna get drunk by any means but Itd be nice to have a glass of wine or a margarita here and there.

I drink and have since 5 weeks. I am 4 months out now but never had any problem with it. Did give up beer. I usually do orange crushes minus the sprite. They are still fruity without the acid of orange juice since its fresh squeezed.

Just like before when you went out when you consumed less calories you tend to get buzzing a little quicker.

I'm 6mths out and have been drinking since 2 mth. In the beginning it was 1 or 2 drinks. My nutritionist said it was okay but suggested I stay away from wine, beer and drinks with fruit juice and soda. LOL I use Crystal light as my mixer. I will have a lil splash of cranberry if my Crystal light isn't handy. I did a shot of Tequila a mth ago and it burned my little pouch so I don't do shots. Oh and no I don't get drunk quicker but I have noticed my buzz doesn't last long. Also, don't be stupid and try to eat and drink. I went out for dinner and drinks with friends and amongst the laughing and talking I forgot I can't eat and sip. I thought I was going to blow at the table. I made it to the bathroom and vomited. SMH!

I drink - not nearly as much as I did before because I can't. After searching for the right "cocktail" I discovered Vodka on the rocks with a splash of Water or club and two lemons goes down slowly but gives me a nice little buzz after one or two. I order on to my friends two or three - it works for me. I also enjoy a glass of pinot on ocasion.

Again, this is a trial and error for everyone.

I just wanted to update everyone and let you all know that I did end up drinking last night. I mixed crystal light lemonade with vodka and had about 4 shots in that then had cranberry and vodkas at the bar....about 4 or 5 over a 4 hour period. I definitely got drunk. But it took way more than I thought it would to do it. The weird thing is, is that im not hungover at all. Had a little bit of a headache this morning but that's all. Im definitely not drinking again for a while because of it being empty calories. But I just wanted to let u all know for the people who were like me and wondering. But everyones tolerance is different. I could handle a lot before surgery.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
