How Much Weight Did You Loose Pre-Surgery?

Recommended Posts

My program doesn't have a specific weight loss requirement. I went to a group last night and many people lost a significant amount pre surgery. I'm feeling like I haven't lost enough and I won't be as successful! Am I stressing unnecessarily over this?

Hey, everyone lose at their own rate. I lose 11 lbs so far, and my surgeon was very pleased. My surgery is 12/3 and starting liver diet so a few more lbs will shed hopefully. He said, the more I lose the easier will be for me. the liver need to shrink so the surgeon can get to the stomach.. So to answer your question, the more you lose the better it will be for you. Best of luck!

I lost 4 lbs before surgery, but I wasn't on a liquid diet or any pre-surgery diet. My surgeon's nurse just scared me to death when she said I had better not gain weight because it would really tick my doctor off.

I lost 4 lbs while at the same time doing a last hurrah for two weeks of eating ice cream, sushi, Indian food, etc.

I lost 20 lb before surgery doing low carb for about a month. My pre-surgery diet was 2 weeks of 20 grams carbs or less. My doctor didn't have any goals for weight lost before surgery. In fact they didn't even weigh me the day of. You can still be very successful if you can't lose weight before. If it were super easy to lose weight we wouldn't all be getting the sleeve as a tool to help us. :) Once you are sleeved, you will not be able to keep up bad habits because your body will not let you. Eventually you will be able to eat almost anything but hopefully by then you will have broken the bad habits and learned the sleeve way of living.

I did Atkins for two weeks and lost 12 lbs. I also went to a buffet two days before surgery, knowing it would be my last. I freaked OUT before surgery though... Thinking that binge fest made my liver huge. I'm SO glad I ate that Buffett.

I only lost 10 lbs pre op. That's what my surgeon had asked me to lose. I lost 8 of that doing the 7 day full liquid diet prior to my surgery. And, I even had 4 months from my 1st surgeon visit til I got thru their program before surgery. I wasn't very successful at losing weight prior to surgery as you can tell.

I lost 25kg which I think is 55lbs? I had 9 months to lose I though. Originally was going to have the band but changed my mind 3-4 months pre surgery because my doctor just got a grant from the government to perform 20 public VSG's. I was the first sleeve operation to be performed in the public hospital. Exciting, but the nursing staff had never nursed someone who'd had this operation so it was a learning curve for everyone!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
