Excercise Help Needed

Recommended Posts

I really like the previously recommended book "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe. But I do not think it is for every one here. In fact, it's probably not for many people here. It was really designed for young aspiring athletes. If you want to get into resistance training but have no idea where to start, a better book is "New Rules of Lifting." There is also a "New Rules of Lifting For Women" for the ladies. Very good instruction and well laid out but simple workout plans for beginners.

Hi, Thank You

You're probably right.

I recommend Starting Strength for a couple reasons.

1: During dieting phases, lean body mass loss is big issue for those getting lean, and resistance training is the best way to deal with the maintenance of it and/or in addition with complicated diet setup with maconutrient cycling with regards to nitrogen sparring.

2: Muscles are cells containing their own genes for coding their own little Proteins, and proper gene expression occurs when a stress(exercise) induces a adaption(transcription, translation, and coding of these Proteins to their proper products) and that is based upon specificity. I figured Marks program, essentially a progressive overloading programming setup, could apply the proper stress to induce adaption people here are looking for which is more muscle and strength without boring them with exercise physiology and theory. It already has the proper lifts to setup them for advance training later too.

I mentioned the above with specificity in mind.

Either way newbie adaptions occur regardless even with the worst training setup, and it can come quick or it can come slow but it has to come first before a more advance setup can be used.

A very good point. As I said, I really like Mark Rippetoe's plan. I basically follow it when I want to improve strength. If you never have check out the New Rules Of Lifting books. They are also very basic but effective. The workouts are based on the popular lifting sequence of a push, pull, squat, lunge and twist. It's sequence has been used very successfully in the crossfit routines as well as many met training routines.

The books also lay out a very simple and easy to follow plan for beginners. It's why I like them so much for many people here. There seem to be many people here who do not have a lot of experience with resistance training. My one knock on Starting Strength is that Mr. Rippetoe is so precise and detailed with his form and technique. While that's good, it's very difficult for a new, novice lifter to do unless they have some coaching. While people who have many years of lifting experience have less trouble with the technique.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
