29 And 4 Day Post Op

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, my name in Monica I just got sleeved last Saturday and I've been feeling great...

A little bit (or a lot maybe I don't really remember) of pain first day.. Did recall getting some pain meds but right now I seem to have forgotten if and how actually painful it really was...

After that a bit of discomfort while I was at the hospital but walking helped a lot!!! The nurses said they have never seen a patient walk so much during their first days!!

My dr is really happy with how things are working out... He said that by the smile on my face and the way I was sitting and moving without any help or problems he knew I was gonna be fine... He said he was gonna give me a gold star for best sleeve of the year :)

I've honestly been feeling soooo much beTTer than I imagined I was soooooo scared bc I had never had surgery before so everything about it just terrified me!! Thankfully It wasn't that bad and I'm apparently stronger than I thought I should give myself some credit next time!!!

I'm on my 4th day post op and I'm amazed I'm already loosing weight and looking better... I've lost 7.7 pounds in 4 days which of course is mostly Water but I'm looking slimmer and less bloated!!!!

So far I'm on clear liquid diet until Friday so I know this will slow down one I start adding more stuff to my diet... I have another 72pounds to loose before reaching my NUT goal weight.

I have to admit I get scared at times of not being able to make it or just not loosing or getting back to my old habits or getting tonsss of loose skin and needing more surgery but I'm trying to keep myself positive!!!

I'm also nervous about starting on soft and solid foods though that's still weeks away just because I don't want to have dumping syndrome or vomiting or nit being able to fit enough nutrients and loose my hair but I'll try to take it one day at a time and see what's what when I get there.. For now I'm feeling great and aside for a little gas pain and incision pain I'm totally fine... I kinda keep forgetting I just had surgery...

So that's all... Just wanted to share my experience since I love reading other ppls experiences!!! This was a great decision and I'm so happy I made it... I would love to make some friends that are going through the same thing I am..

Btw I have read a lot of ppl wondering if it's a good idea to tell others... I wasn't sure but I've told some ppl and my parents have told a bunch so by now everyone knows and have been very supportive...

I forgot to mention.. I'm from Venezuela... Anyone else here from latinamerica? Haven't seen anyone so just curious...

Thanks to both!!!! I'm feeling great!!!!

Leleboo I didnt do a 6 month pre op diet I just did the one week I actually decided to have the surgery a month and a half ago but I've read a lot of ppl do 6 months, can I ask why?

6 months go by fast though so you'll be where I am before you know it!!!! Good luck!!!

If u don't mind me asking.. How much do u have to loose and how strict is the 6 month diet??? Sorry I'm new and kinda jumped into it without knowing a lot.. I'm learning a lot from reading other ppls experiences...

Hi Moniq22. because my BMI is under 50 my insurance Blue Care Network of Michigan requires that I have 6 months of diet monitoring by my doctor. I don't have to lose a specific amount or be on a specific diet. The wording from the insurance said something like I should be on a diet that would enable me to lose 1-2 lbs. a week. I'm really bad and I do Protein Shakes for a week before I go weigh in, so far I have lost 17lbs. I have 121lbs to lose. I could lose more and faster but my insurance also states that I must lose at least 100lbs after WLS in order for them to pay for plastic surgery on my stomach which I know I will need after all this fat and carrying 3 boys.

Oh wow... I thought it may be because of the insurance... So annoying!I did it on my own but my dad is a dr. So I don't have to pay the whole thing and didn't do that... Though my cousins did use their insurance and dud the same diet I did I guess it changes with the country and the insurance ppl etc!

Good luck, hope it all works out!

Hey Monica, Were you required to submit 2yrs of weight history? My BMI is 41 but my Center says the documents must show my weight at least to be 280 for the past 2yrs. Will this be a problem. I am male 29yrs old Latin and is my first surgery ever. Very nervous and how painful has it been?

Hey Perez where are u from? Good to see another Latin around here!

I wasn't required to submit weight history... I went to a consult with my surgeon 3 year ago and weighed a lot less than now like 16 kg less, he still said he could do the surgery but I chickened out...

Is your doctor asking for that or the insurance?

My BMI was 39 at the time of surgery.. 36.5 today 5 days later... I was 233 lbs at my heaviest but I lost like 14 on my own before deciding to do this and around 215 at the moment of my surgery 204.6 today but I'm a woman so they might not require so much as for a male... I really think it depends on the surgeon though..mine is amazing!!!!

Reading all the stories here I can see that no 2 surgeons are alike and no 2 nuts are alike... I've seen hundreds of different advices from doctors here so just be sure you really trust the ppl who are doing this...

This was my first surgery too and I was terrified but it hasn't really been painful just the first day and I was told it wasn't that bad for me... My cousins were crying their first day though they are pretty dramatic ppl so I don't trust them hehe I have heard ppl having more pain and a really sharp shoulder pain...none for me thankfully

I just asked for something for the stomach pain and i did feel a bit nauseous but they gave me something and was fine just really uncomfortable because I normally suffer from insomnia so I didn't sleep at all while at the hospital and the gases were annoying but walking is the best thing for that....

Everyone is different but just know it's never gonna be as bad as you think... I honestly thought many times I wouldn't go through with it and now 5 days post op I'm happy as a clam and even keep forgetting I just had surgery.. I was walking with my iPod an hour ago and caught myself dancing.. No problem at all though I should take it a bit slower...

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
