What 2 Purchase/pack ?

Recommended Posts

What should I invest in before surgery, and what all should I pack? What will I need afterwards? I need to make a big list.

I still have aprox 3 mos.

Also want to read more on this.

I know to have stock for transition diets first weeks after,

I know to set up in home to be comfortable in one spot, and to get to the bathroom, Kitchen in readiness.

The doc should ask you to get clean with certain soap I think day or so before surgery ?

Pillow can help you roll out of bed, real comfy stuff you'd wear.

Laptop or a book, you'll pay for use of a television too.

You really won't need much at all, but there is a great topic about this in this thread. I think it's called the Official What you Will Need for your surgery... Helped me a lot in deciding what to bring.

I don't have my date yet but here is my list, after reading and talking to several people that have had surgery:

For hospital

sleep mask

ear plugs (to get some sleep)

Ipod with earbuds (if you like sleeping with music)

phone and charger

laptop/ kindle or something else if you will be in the hospital more than 1 day

small firm pillow (for holding against stomach and for car rid home)

dry mouth spray (Biotene)

Gas-X strips

chapstick (important for after surgery)

baby wipes

face wash

toothbrush and paste

lotion

deodorant

journal to write things down

wear comfortable loose clothes to the hospital then just leave in what you came in...including soft slippers then there is no packing clothes :)

For home:

wedge pillow for the bed

belly band to help support stomach

heating pad

Gas X strips

flexible ice pack

comfy loose pj pants

comfy bras with no underwire

medicine cups (I ordered 100 on Amazon for cheap, to help with sipping....line up 4 for every hour with liquids)

espresso spoons (also bought on amazon, they are like baby silverware, for helping take smaller bites)

baby warming bowl

electric mug warmer (to keep broth or warm beverages warm)

liquid tylenol

SarahG0417 You've made my day this morning, thanks,

in part I'd been aware yet now have added to my Amazon cart saved is,

Gas X strips

medicine cups (I ordered 100 on Amazon for cheap, to help with sipping....line up 4 for every hour with liquids)

espresso spoons (also bought on amazon, they are like baby silverware, for helping take smaller bites)

liquid tylenol

dry mouth spray (Biotene)

baby wipes

also, I see that Jello shot cups are cheaper than the medicine cups and may add a value when measuring food or Protein stuff. And I saw a sippi cup that was in the mix items, I wonder, this seems a solution maybe that I can not drink like that ? hmmmm.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
