Why Is Meat Making Me Sick?

Recommended Posts

I love meat. Like seriously have always been able to sit down with a plate of steak or chicken and nothing else. Now when I need the Protein every time I eat meats I get sick (nausea then throw up). Why?

How far out are you? No one can answer without knowing this. Most can not eat steak for quite a while and chicken unless it is cooked soft can be a problem too.

My aunt couldn't eat meat without throwing up for 2 years, now she can eat it without any problem. But she had the RnY, so not sure if that would make a difference or not.

I was told not to eat beef or pork until 6 weeks out. chicken only if you eat small bites and chew very well. Fish and seafood should go down well.

5 weeks out is still really early. You may be eating too much, too fast, or it might be too tough for you. Try eating less and make sure it's really soft. Also take teeny tiny little bites and chew really well before you swallow.

Everyone tolerates food a little differently. What type of meat are you eating? Recommend soft fish at first then try something besides beef. One of my SoCal group buddies at three years out still feels "heavy" when eating chicken.

So, you are learning what you can and can not have right now. Back off what you can't tolerate now and try again in a few months.

Hugs...things will get easier as you learn on this journey.

It is too early for beef or pork. I make my chicken thighs in the crock pot and eat very small bites and chew alot. I didn't eat chicken until week 8.

That's one opinion. I've been eating puréed chicken since day 10 with no issues whatsoever, so it's not too early for everyone.

OP, maybe you can try canned chicken since its not as dry. I've also had an easy time with tilapia and tuna steak (in the blender). If something doesn't work, just wait a week or two and try again. Good luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
