Hi,

On this forum I've seen women get pregnant as early as 5 mths out, I was 18 mths out when I got pregnant, but it really jus depends on your body and if it's ready.

However, I don't want to alarm you but have you had your gallbladder checked for stones? At 7 wks I had what I thought to be an anexity attack. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance, due to doubling over and unable to walk. After lots of testing I was informed I had gallbladder stones and it had flared up.

Of course I was in shock, my gastric surgeon never mentioned it nor did any testing on my gallbladder. My OB/GYN stated being in the 1st trimester you can not do anything for a gallbladder issue that it causes a risk of miscarriage, and that maybe the flare up was just a one time occurrence, that we would just have watch it closely.

I am now 16 wks no more flare ups, so we thought all was well, until last Friday night when I was admitted to the hospital for pancreatitis. My liver enzymes were extremely elevated along with other issues, and yesterday they removed my gallbladder. My surgeon stated he was suprised that my gastric doctor did not check for gallbladder issues before or after surgery and that he was glad we caught it now before the baby got any bigger. If it were to have gone untreated there is no way that you can carry your baby full term, as the pain is so excruciating and it places stress on you and the baby.

I was released today and of course I am in lots of pain but I feel that it's worth it so that I can my baby full term. My doctors were great and made sure the baby was never in any harm. Before during and after my surgery all my doctors made sure to check the health of the baby and that my baby was not in distress.

I can tell you from experience this for sure is something you don't want to go through, so make sure your health and all organs are 100% before getting pregnant. I wish you well.

Egads, what, wait 18-24 months til sex, oh no!!!

i think if we had to wait that long we'd remain fat

seriously now folks ;) ......

i have heard (I think, always covering myself ;) ) that you are supposed to wait at least a year after WLS to have kids

but i have seen posts where people say something like, oh no i'm pregnant 3 months post op (they didn't want to get pregnant so early after surgery, wanted to loose their weight 1rst)

then get pregnant, and eat carefully, not gaining too much - but making sure baby gets enough nutrition

then after birth, and assuming you are not breast feeding, you can get back on program by not eating as much, as often, back to exercising too

after the baby, when they start to crawl, you'll get plenty of exercise running after them

many people do this surgery for health reasons of course, to be able to get pregnant

maybe after you speak to your dr. again - he can give you better information on why he thinks you need to wait til you can/should get pregnant , and hopefully say its safe to get pregnant sooner than later - good luck with that :)

i see your 1 week PO, since you didn't comment otherwise, you must be doing ok- glad to "hear" that

speedy recovery

take care

It's not a year to have sex :P it's a year to have a baby (or to get pregnant actually). The reason for this is that early into the surgical recovery you aren't able to provide your body and a growing fetus with enough nutrients to safely be pregnant. Do people do it earlier? Sure, but is that healthy and safe? Smart even???? I guess that is up to them but I have had high risk pregnancies and I know that while I wanted a baby very badly, I didn't want it so badly that I would risk having a sick or special needs baby just to rush the process.

You've already pulled the plug on the surgery, so you can't go back on that, but why did you do it if you wanted to have a baby so soon? I'm a couple of months out and I struggle to get in 600 cals a day, not to mention it's SO not a balanced diet that a fetus needs. I would never be able to get enough in to have them survive or be born healthy. This includes brain development by the way....not just that they would be small.

This is the time to get healthy, get to a safe weight to carry a baby without being high risk, and get your body ready for a baby. Decorate a nursery, hold crack babies at the hospital, but don't get pregnant while you are recovering from this surgery and losing weight! (BTW the crack baby thing is serious and it's really rewarding if you have the patience).

Salvation Army has a program in Anchorage. It was one of my favorite volunteer activities ever. They cry a lot, but so did my little guy so I'm good with sick babies. I used to do it once a week. I suppose you could call a local hospital if you live in a larger city and see if they have a program. I learned about it from another volunteer.

There was a background check, etc., but it was well worth the hassle! I never knew anything about the babies except that they were coming off of the drugs and didn't have family able to be with them. You are trained not to ask questions!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
