Lap Band Complications

Recommended Posts

Hi guys...Thank you so much for your replys.

I'm sorry I haven't been on lately..Been so busy!!

I went to the hospital last week to see what is going on..Dr Nottle was so helpful and kind to me. He knew I was scared and he was kind enough to make me feel comortable.

They didn't have to cut me up thank goodness...He wanted to try and fill it one more time before he opened me up and it worked!!! I feel so relieved.

I didn't have to pay for anything, which was also good as I'm still getting bills from the hospital!!!

I have lost a total of: 16kgs since my op!! I'm feeling so much better now!!

Eeek. I"m not sure how you are with the private health insurance situation, I mean its not something everyone can afford but you dont have to have family cover either, you could take it out for just yourself. I wouldnt be without it with a lapband for precisely these reasons, if you ever have a complication, yes Medicare will cover most of the medical attention and surgery but you'll be up for the hospital bed and that can be VERY expensive.

Glad its sorted for you, and it does make me mad when doctors are overcommitted like that. Its so fantastic though that you can get it done without insurance through the public system, even if its self pay, he's providing a very valuable service as most surgeons wont take self pay patients and dont offer public lists. Otherwise, fixing their obesity related health concerns is something that can only be enjoyed by those on the wealthier end of the spectrum and that's just wrong.

Glad to hear its all sorted for you.

Like Jacqui, I'm so glad to have the private health cover. My revision surgery would have cost me a bundle had I not :/

I was banded 5 1/2 yrs ago and after about 6 weeks rolled over in bed one morning and had excruciating pain in my rigt side. This went on for one week (could hardly stand up straight ) until my surgeon did xray and found out that the port had disconnected due to faulty product. He didn't charge any out of pocket for new surgery but i insisted he give me detsils of the product supplier. After nearly 1 year of chasing them up they reimbursed me $850 for my hospital excess, x rays etc. Just make sure you follow through and you never know. By the way my surgeon didn't really want me to contact them (maybe was his fault?) but he wasn't the one footing the bills.

Good luck

Heidi

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
