So they are coming out of the woodwork...... I have been to two events over the last 2 weekends and everyone is now calling me and texting me to either see what I have done or am I sick. My best friend for whom I didn't tell, told me not to lose anymore weight because I was looking sick. Have you seen my last pic. I have been sick must of my life.. I was sick and dying earlier this year bedridden d/t my heart and now everyone wants to come out and be oh so concerned about me. I chose not to tell anyone because everyone I told was against it... now that I have lost over 80 lbs they want to show their heads. I am so happy now, I love the compliments but for the ones, my so called friends and family that didn't care about me then...why do you care now... Only a hand full of people did I tell about my surgery and I am happy about that decision. It is no ones business and it will stay that way. Thanks for letting me vent.

p.s I purchased a dress 2 weeks ago for my son's wedding and had to to take it back Sat morning because it was falling off of me... I am now in a size 12 and loving every minute of it.

Good job so far! You know you are moving forward with your success when you start to hear compliments. Keep up the good work and your progress towards better health. You decide if and when you want to share anything about your health with anyone. There is no shame in keeping it private nor in sharing your surgery with the world, but don't let anyone (at work, home, or here in this forum) make that decision for you. It is completely your decision for what is right for you.

You are doing very good with your weight loss! Let the haters wonder. You did something for you and your health when you had the surgery. That's awesome you had to get a different size in 2 weeks WOW! Keep going forward.

I think you are doing very well. I am kind of in your shoes as well....no one is really concerned about me in pre op even though it is a challenge as well...So i hope when i am sleeved they get more into the game and support me through it but if not i will push forward and do it on my own as you are. Good luck to you and keep up the good work

I looked at your before and after pictures in your profile.

Maybe she means "sick" in a colloquial sense, like "sick-good"...otherwise suggest to your friend a support group.

Jealousy is huge when one person is doing an amazing job and the next is NOT. My mom who knew about my surgery and "supported" me turned on me when someone said: "Your daughter looks good Gina." Mom- yeah well she had weight loss surgery!

THAT is jealousy and it's such a nasty nasty thing that can hurt a lot of people.

Just remember that you did something great for yourself, you SAVED your own life by choosing to get healthy and happy. Don't let the haters rain on your parade!

Keep up the amazing work!

I must be the luckiest person. I don't know what is said behind my back at work, but I get the best compliments to my face at least. My family all know and they have been truly supportive.

That "Don't lose anymore weight because you are looking sick" comment was beyond rude.

Keep working that sleeve and doing it for you and your health. We all here are very proud of you.

Hello You Go Girl!!

I now the feeling, nosy women and nosy people that just want to gossip. I was soooooo torn up when I came out of surgery if I should tell people at my job or not. I am NYC teacher so I planed my surgery over the summer break. I cried ALOT about this, but then again I cried alot in general about this surgery (maybe its just me and i am sensitive lol) I went back to work in sept. and was down 50 pounds. I decided if I just say yes I had surgery and don't go deep into conversation about it then it would shut up the gossiping. I figured how could people gossip if I am telling you from the door that I had weight loss surgery. OOOHHHH was I in for a rude awakening!! I work with 99.999% women not a single woman came up to me and said a damn thing yet they were all asking and talking behind my back. The few that eventually did ask I said yes i had surgery, are you teaching math 2nd period. I got all kinds of responses. A women came up to me and said that people are only paying me attention because I have a body!!! I had to remember this negativity isn't for ME its their own battles inside that they are fighting and I just happen to be the punching bag! I also had to remind myself not everyone is going to be happy that you are losing weight. The world is filled with all kinds of sick and twisted people. I remember a woman in my doctors office saying that you're going to see men treating you very different after surgery. I haven't experienced that yet and I hope I don't cause I am not sure how I would respond. lolol...

You look great keep up the good work. Luckily I haven't had anyone say anything negative that I'm aware of. I too pick and choose who I share my surgery news with. Most ppl I tell are very close to me, they voiced their concerns in the beginning and compliment me now. Just the way I like it. So those ppl who have something to say as you mentioned dont matter and are truely haters, they can kick rocks. The best revenge to most women is a small waist and a strong mind. So sounds like you're on the right path.

Celebrate the haters, for the notice the difference in you. Do you think you look sick? Does your doctor think you look sick? What is your BMI?

Don't let others derail your success. Rejoice - you are conquering obesity. Stick to the plan. Congratulations on your dedication and rocking your sleeve!

Hugs - I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
