How Did Your Children Adjust?

Recommended Posts

I am a single mom to 3 kiddos; 13, 10, and 6. My surgery is scheduled for December 17. My kids are my life and one of my biggest concerns is how the surgery will affect them

I have a 12 year old daughter, she did (is) adjusting very well. She had 1 small break down because she missed all the junk in the house, but we talked and she also wants to lose some weight, and so she is glad that I am now making healthier meals. I am so glad I did this now while she is still young.

My boys are just 5 and nearly 4 and I didn't think they had even noticed until recently. My five year old told me just two days ago that my bum looked skinny (which is sure does after 120lbs! yehaww!) and he said he missed the old me. And I said but the old me couldn't chase you as fast, and he said that is why he misses the old me! Now that I can catch him when he runs it isn't as fun! ahahhaha

Your kids will be your biggest cheerleading group! You are doing this surgery so that you will be healthy and will live long enough to become and pain in their butt one day. :)

My 2-yr-old is, well, 2. So she doesn't really care. My 4 1/2 yr old was a bit nervous. Before he left for his grandma's on Sunday (my surgery was Tuesday) I shaved my goatee (anesthesia requirement) thinking he'd find it funny. Instead, he got a little worried that something was majorly wrong with me. The whole time he was at my folks' house, he did nothing but ask if I'm okay. Needless to say, he was very relieved to see me when he got home yesterday, and even laughed at my hairless face. I didn't anticipate a reaction like this from such a young kiddo, but I did learn that they can tell when something's up, even if they're not told. He's back to his ornery self now, though. :-)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
