The're quite a few different ones...i had a choice between a shake one a milk one and a food one. Mines really quite restrictive only 200g Protein and 100g of carbs. 200ml semi skimmed milk allowance and 2 portions of fruit. No root veg peas or sweetcorn and lots of Water and leafy Veg.

my pre op diet consists of Protein shakes they want us to have them 3-4 times a day. my shake filled me up really good this morning. i am also allowed veggies (steamed no carb veggies) and yogurt,2oz of chicken) cottage cheese, hard boiled egg once a day. so out of the list i can choose two along with veggies.

i chose 2 do solid foods. i honestly dont understand the head hunger part because i eat when im hungry and have physical pain for food in my stomach. i try to drink Water or flavored water as much as i can in between.

i dont want 2 go to sleep with solid foods in me. so i will be having a shake for dinner. good luck to you! we can do this!!!! only 8 more days left!!!

I also had headaches for the 1st 3 days..i think its a bit of withdrawal from the cards and sugars. Hopefully your nearing the end if the headache part.

**i meant i chose the solid food part for lunch because i can burn it off better during the day.

I was instructed to follow a true liquid diet. I can put fruit or oatmeal (yes, oatmeal - cooked or uncooked) into the blender with the Protein shake. But only liquids. I also am allowed to put nuts or yoghurt into the blender with the Protein Shake but everything has to be blended. I don't know why but I am following the instructions. I think it does help to prepare for the change in lifestyle. I am. It enjoying the liquid diet but it's not the worst thing to go through. I do miss chewing. I can have Jello and sugar free puddings. Also broth - but I find that the broth tastes just like Water. I would like something savory.

I took Tylenol and found it helps with the headaches. I still feel a bit weak at the end of the second day. Other than that it is not so bad. I do think that the liquid diet helps to prepare me psychologically for the dietary changes.

Hi, am on Day 4 of 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Today I was hungry, yesterday was terrible - watching football and no Snacks (unless you count yogurt). Is chewing gum allowed? no note on my instructions about gum but yesterday I really, really wanted something to chew!!!! My doc is tremendously picky and strict -- closest thing to chewable food is cottage cheese and/or cream of wheat; other than that it's yogurt, pudding, Jello (all sugar free of course), and cream Soups (strained). Got my order of Protein powders and have been adding the powder to the above foods and to Water flavored with Crystal Light (guess that makes it a shake?).

Thinking ahead to months of no eating out makes me sad, so need to get a better attitude.

thanks for a place to be honest about my feelings.

How much weight have you lost? I'm in week 2 and I've only lost 8 pounds.... I don't understand, I'm eating around 600-700 calories a day, how is it possible that I didn't lose anything the second week. I've heard of people losing 15-20 pounds during their 3 week diet.

I had headaches the first 3 days as well and was also exhausted. I have a little more energy now and I'm used to the 700 calories a day.

I spread it out throughout the day. I'm allowed 3 shakes (Ru-Tein with 8 oz skim milk), 2 cups of chicken broth, 2 sugar free jellos, 2 cups of lettuce twice w/1 tblsp. light dressing & 1 light yogurt. I try not to have anything to eat until I actually feel hungry which seems to be around 10:30-11:00 a.m and then I spread the food out throughout the day. Just finished my 5th day and 1st weekend on it. Hopefully next week and weekend will go as good as last week and this weekend did.

My surgery has been postponed by three weeks. Surgeon states I can choose to stop the liquid diet after 15 days but that it is okay to continue the liquid diet for one month. I have chosen to continue the liquid diet. I am on day 4 and find it easier. I did find the Halloween candy very tempting but walked on by. I am less hungry now on the liquid diet and find it a helpful tool to identify "head" hunger. I cannot say I enjoy the liquid diet but I can do it.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
