Not Taking My Vitamins

Recommended Posts

I take Centrum morning and night, plus a blackmores hair nail and skin tablet morning and night, pantaprozole (acid reducer) in the morning and Biotin and night, just started taking Iron pills at lunch cause iron was low... Surgeon and nut put me on compulsory acid reducer every morning for a year and my centrum 2x daily, and just started with the iron tabs being compulsory... The others I just take cause I don't want Hair loss :P

I just started my Vitamins yesterday (nut. has us start back when on puree). I bought chewable Calcium w/ vit. D and multi-vit., also chewable, from Unjury. They're made specifically for sleevers. Problem is one serving of calcium is 4 tablets. I put the 5 chewables and my vit. B sublingual in a liitle bowl to eat during the day as a snack-jeeesh! My times have changed! I wish there was one tablet to do it all, chewables are a tease!

Those on Iron, is it liquid or pills? If pills are you able to swallow?

I take "Flinstone Complete" chewable Vitamins. I take B12 once a week. All my labs have been normal and my NUT told me the flinstone complete is all that I would need.

Me too, I was told to take 2 per day along with Calcium.

I love getting a monthly B12 shot. That is one less thing to worry about. I usually get my multi Vitamin with iron' date=' but need to do better with Calcium (I use Tums). I notice a big difference in how I feel when I don't take them. I'm less energetic and alert.[/quote']

That's a good idea, I never thought about my tums as a calcium supplement. Thanks!!!

How do the Celebrate chewables taste? Thinking of ordering a multi with Iron.

Chad, I am using the Celebrate chewables now after first trying the Bariatric Advantage and felt they were rather blech!

The multi does not have Iron, and I ordered a separate iron + C chewable from celebrate to take one a day. Although everyone's tastes differ, I find the multivit grape flavor to be easy to take and you don't don't even really need to chew it, as if you keep it in your mouth it dissolves over 5-10 min and tastes like a sweet-tart without really being either too sweet or tart (if that makes sense). Per my NUT, I do that twice a day along with a liquid Calcium + D (I had to find a tolerable liquid since all the chewables I tried were too chalky for my taste -- I use a brand called Wellesse. It tastes OK I guess. I'm more looking forward to the chocolate and caramel calcium chews but I'm still one week post-op so only liquid or chewables for now). Oh, and since the multi has 350 mcg of B12, I don't need to take a separate B12 unless my lab values indicate otherwise in the future.

The Celebrate grape Iron +C is actually my favorite tasting of the non-Flinstone/non-Gummy chewables I have ever tried. Once a day separated at least 3 hours from the calcium so as not to inhibit absorption.

Hope that helps bro. Keep up the great work!

Red, obviously ask your doc and/or NUT for their personal recs for you, but in general after surgery you'll need either a liquid or chewable for your vits and minerals. My doc said even no to gummies for the first 4 weeks, and no "regular" pill-form Vitamins for 8 weeks. The important thing with the Iron (per my NUT) is to make sure it contains Vit C as well (most now do, since it increases iron absorption), and to not take iron and Calcium within a few hours of each other (because calcium may interfere with iron absorption).

Best of luck to you!

I don't take mine half the time, I find the entire process overwhelming. Between meds and Vitamins I take 21 items a day. Some you take with food (even though you can't drink with meals) and some can't be taken at the same time and some taste like crap. I have a doctor appointment this Friday, we will see what the lab work has to say.

I take Bariatric chewable multi Vitamins from The Vitamin Shoppe. They aren't too bad. Get my B12, Vitamin D, Biotin, calcium citrate and clear ready to drink Protein drinks (by Cyroslort) there too. I like getting everything from one place. They have a huge selection of Protein powders too. If you get something you don't like, they'll exchange it (store ctedit).

I've read numerous times that you shouldn't take Iron unless your surgeon or PCP recommends it. I've had a hysterectomy so don't need it.

Also be aware that some chewable Multi Vitamins don't include minerals which are important too. I don't think One a Day or most gummies have minerals.

You might try speeding out your pills/ meds too. I take some right when I get our of bed, some with Breakfast (swallow with a bite of yogurt) and I tJe my multi after lunch.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
