Hi- New To This Site- Really Depressed

Recommended Posts

Hang in there - you'll reflect back on this difficult time and realize that you did everything you were supposed to and made it through. It is a scary, depressing, exciting, difficult, happy time and you'll make it through. The recovery is weird because it is sooooo different than what we're used to. JUST DO YOUR BEST. You know what you need to do, so just stay on course. Remember that the "rules" are ideals. If you work toward those protein/fluid totals, you'll be doing the right thing. I had a really hard time with the amounts of things and never felt like I got enough protein/fluid in. I didn't drink even one - literally not one (absolutely couldn't tolerate them) - Protein Drink and I'm doing great. You'll find what works for you. Just keep sipping those liquids and take comfort in the progress you are making each and every day. I'm nine months out and feel "normal" in my new body. I can say that I feel like I've totally adjusted to this new way of life/eating/drinking. I look back on the first month and realize that it was really tough and quite emotional. But now things are moving along smoothly and I am so happy I did this.

I hope that you get to feel better....soon..... who did your procedure ? I was thinking about going to Mexico however, I will take a medical loan and do it in the USA.... not sure with whom yet ......R

Just an FYI for you. Don't be afraid to go to Mexico. I did in September and I went with Dr Garcia in Tijuana. He is the most amazingly, talented, skilled surgeon. I actually had a revision, it went fantastic and I had no issues no real pain or gas or complications. The price is fantastic and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

It was hard ( oct 08). I'm on board with the unflavored Unjury Protein and putting it in crystal light. For concentrated sources of protein ( 3 weeks out and still sore) I drink Isopure or unjury shakes in about 4 oz of liquid. That makes the whole process less intimidating. Then I focus on Fluid, fluids between that. Sometimes I try a scoop and a half in one Protein Shake (25g) so gets halfwayway to my goal by 2p. Slow sipping was also vital. I also had to switch around my ppi a bit and try different types of fluid ( coconut Water, propel , isopure, water mixed with mango juice) to figure out what my sleeve liked best. It took a lot of experimentation but I'm getting there. You will too.

Hi lissa - I just started on solids this week so gradually adding things in. I try to get between 40 and 60 ounces of Water in - the Protein has been a challenge . Today I did better than normal - 58 grams of protein in but some of that came from Isopure. I've also been stalled for almost 2 weeks but also had a kidney stone last week and now a kidney infection which may be part of it. I hope anyway- hard not to think that this is just another diet gone bad!

Want to encourage you to hang in there, please. Today is not what your life will be like in 6 months, promise. Right now you are on a journey and now you are in the healing phase.

Do everything you can to get in your Protein, take your supplements, drink enough Water and rest. Tomorrow is a new day. Won't promise things will change quickly but looking back you will agree that every day of struggle was worth it. Really.

Hugs for you. I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for all the responses. Been getting ready for this storm, and just managed to write back. I'm reading every response over & over again to absorb all the tips you've given me. It's a night & day difference in how I'm feeling compared to last night. Thank you & I can't wait to post when I've gotten thru this nutty phase :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
