I Have A Question...

Recommended Posts

When I go in to my one on one with my surgeon will he tell me what I need to be taking after surgery or even when I'm on my 2week pre op thing?? Cause all I've heard is my 2 week pre op is just low calories n the day before clear liquid. I'm really scared that I'm not gonna know what I'm suppost to be taking before n after surgery. From the nasty Protein Shakes or Vitamins. Or how much Protein a day... Can someone help me?? O go in for my one on one with my surgeon on monday!

Every surgeon has specific instructions, however the instructions vary from surgeon to surgeon. Some surgeons require Pre surgery diet for months, others 2 weeks, some none, some surgeons only require multi-vitamins others a laundry list.. I would wait until you meet with your surgeon, otherwise you will drive yourself crazy.

It's very important to talk to your doctor about your before and after treatment. It is so important. Mine gave me a binder of information!

I haven't had surgery yet, I actually meet with my surgeon on Nov.7. But I'm pretty sure he/she will go over all this with you. From what I have gathered with talking to the staff at my surgeon's office it sounds like the NUT sets up a diet plan etc tailored to each individual, since everyone is different. All I know is it's important to follow your dr's. instructions, even if it seems hard and you dread it.

If by chance he doesn't go over any of this with you, then I would ask him/her. But I'm sure he will :)

Best of luck!

For my surgeon, we had a mandatory information class the week before surgery.

They went over everything pre & post op as well as giving us a binder full of do's and don'ts, food lists for each step, etc. Also, the NUT came in & spoke about Vitamins, Protein options, etc. It is a great book & I still use it to reference even at 3.5 months out.

I would make a list of questions you have and ask your surgeon. A good doctor is more then happy to answer all questions. Perhaps you will have an info session pre op too.

Wishing you the best for your upcoming surgery & a speedy recovery!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
