Don't like Water right know, makes me sad. Before surgery I LOVED Water. Hope it changes after time.

You're doing great fellow newbie! I'm also enjoying the 3 week "Honeymoon phase" of weight loss (the week prior to surgery and the first 2 weeks after!) I'm down a total of 15.5 pounds since 2 weeks ago today! Wow-that's a first for me in my life! I made my Halloween goal early-psyched! Slow and steady wins the race! Good luck!

I was sleeved Monday the 22nd. I am 5 days out now and beginning to feel functioning again. Still a long way from normal! Pain wise, I have one area in the center of my tummy that pulls and burns. It is not an incision which is what confused me. Is this normal? It is center, towards my right side. I could understand if it was an incision, but it is not. The incisions don't hurt at all. This nagging spot keeps me from sleeping comfortably. I am struggling getting in fluids, but I am making it my goal to do better today since I woke up with a headache. I do not want to dehydrate!

On a great note, I am down a total of 25 pounds! 20 pre, and 5 post. So excited to see the scale moving down rather than up for a change. I want to feel good shopping for a holiday outfit by mid December!

Congrats! I was also sleeved on Monday, October 22. I lost 12.5lbs preop and have now started losing again - down another 2.5lbs. I agree that seeing the scale go down rather than up is a huge motivation! I am also struggling to get my fluids and Protein in. I went and bought some Protein Shots yesterday that are 2.5oz and have 26g of protein in them. I hope this will help. As for pain, I have one incision that pulls and burns when I move. I have a call into the nurse to see if this is normal. Other than that it's just the usual postop soreness.

I was sleeved on Oct. 15th. The pain you are feeling near your incision is the pulling of the stitch on the stomach. This is what my doctor told me and said it was normal. Mine is hurting less every day. I too struggle to get in my liquids and Protein but it gets a little easier every day as well. I lost 11 lbs pre op and am down a total of 23 now. It does feel great to be loosing. I will be glad when I can eat soft foods. I'm tired of Soups and pudding. Hang in there everyone and keep us all posted on how you are doing.

Re: the pulling and/or burning pain-be sure you don't lift when youre not supposed to and don't return to work to soon! 2 things I did which set me back a good week on my healing. My DOS 10/11/12, went back to work (full duty only-no restrictions. Union job.) on Mon. 10/22/12 only to GI home at end on the day in tears the burning pain got so bad! Saw my Dr. on Tues. he said I was fine, the muscles are healing from laproscopic equipment (like stab wounds, actually!) but I should not go back to work until this Mon. 10/29/12. Hurricane supposed to hit on Monday. Halloween on Wednesday. I think I'll go back on Thursday! I'm one of two full time secretaries in an Elementary school main office. We are understaffed and overworked as it is! (725 students, 2-1/2 secretaries: unbelievable stress and hecticness! Will I ever really be ready to go back to that?? My job is part of the reason for me getting so big in the first place-always needed a "treat" or reward to get me through the morning, than another to get me through the afternoon!) Anyway...take my advice-stay home as long as you possibly can. You'll feel better in the long run!

Holly, I can relate to all of that and more! I teach at a small private school. We have literally 0 substitutes! This means when I am out, my Co worker is in a class of 18 kindergartners (and their high maintenance parents) by herself. I fear if I miss much more time, she will quite and leave me alone!

On a positive note, I feel a lot better! I do have a very supportive Co worker who will pull more than her share if I can't do it all.

Thank you for your advice and concern!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
