Hi all!

Yesterday I had my 1:1 meeting with the dietician when I asked her to help me set a goal weight. She pretty much left it up to me, I am currently about 294 and set my goal for 150 pounds. I am scheduled for my gastric sleeve November 19th. I know that this is attainable, with focus and dedication. However I am looking for some insight. In your experiences does it seem like my "goal weight" is feasible. Thanks for all your support :)

Coming from someone that probably isn't going to hit goal weight, I can tell you that for me, the scale and goal weight is just a number. I really had difficulty putting a number on it, but the Dr wanted me to, so I threw out 215, I had no idea really what weight I wanted as far as weight goes. I'm 6-3 and I remember back at the beginning of college (18 yrs old) I was this height and weighed 220 and was really slim. I knew that I wanted to lose fat, keep muscle and above all be healthier and I'm now I am off all of my medications. So overall I'm still happy with where I am. Would I like to lose the extra 18 pounds or so to get to goal weight? Sure, but it's not the most important thing for me. I do know that I am as strong as when I was over 300 pounds and lifting a lot. Also, my body fat percentage went from 35% to 14-15%, which to me is a more important number. So what you might want to consider is why am I really having this surgery and let that guide your overall goal. Good luck with whatever that goal is and the people on this message board are always a good source to turn to and they've really helped me as well!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
