Period After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced NOT having a period after surgery? I'm 4 weeks out and have no signs of it. I've taken 2 pg test and they're both negative. Anyone else??

Anesthesia can do that. Don't stress too much its common. I've had 11 surgeries in the past few years, half of them through my period off several months and half made me start even though I wasn't due too. I had an endometrial ablation a month ago and really have no reason to have a period anymore but I got k e after my sleeve surgery last week. Hopefully it will be my last because I do not want a hyst.

That ablation b.s. is a joke. They push it as the next best thing since stick butter. Well, my period used to be 4 days. NOW my period is 7 days and HEAVY. Like Jeffrey Dahmer has committed a murder. Ridiculous. Ask the doc about it and he says, "oh. It must not have worked for you." really. You think? Bleh. :(

I'm almost six months out and have not had a period since my surgery. My gynecologist gave me a prescription for Provera that should make my body have a period, but I have not yet taken them.

The estrogen your body throws off during rapid weight loss can effect your TOM as well. I had severe complications for the first 45 days after surgery and didnt have one the month I was going through the worst. That was probably a blessing to say the least. Being helpless without your period is bad enough (can you say sponge bath?) let alone dealing with TOM.

TOM = time of month

I too did not have a period the first month, had it month 2 and no signs of one now in month 3. Dr said it is very common to have an irregular cycle due to hormones & weight loss (like Iggy mentioned). At first I was worried and then thought I could handle only having it every other month ;-}

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you. I work in the medical field (GYN/L&D) and know many people who've had an ablation none of which have gotten a period since. There's no reason why you should considering your endometrium is diminished. If you still bleed heavy after 6 months our docs recommend a hysterectomy as there are usually other problems that exist. I hope it gets better for you! The period I got after surgery has been definately much lighter than past. Ill take that over having to change my pad and tampon everytime I stand up.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
