I Have A Question About Going To The Bathroom

Recommended Posts

Honey why don't you ask for a barium swallow test first? It's less invasive (it's basically a live xray where they watch Fluid go through your body). IF there is a block it will show up in the swallow test and if there is a leak that will as well.....

There are tests they can do that aren't exploratory surgery.... And why on EARTH did they sop your fluids?!

You have got to be kidding!! This is sheer craziness. I've been lurking on this post, not adding anything bcs iggy has been doing a great job in guiding you. But i want to reinforce that you need to cause a stink!!! Enough already. Demand a leak test. Demand fluids. You don't need the nurses to like you! If you care about that then tell the nurses that you apologize for being a b***h, and then BE ONE!!!! This is your life, not theirs. If you don't feel strong enough to make noise, do you have a relative that can? Someone needs to call the hospital and speak to the nurse in charge and also, call the doc's office. This is not right. Remember that the squeaky wheel gets greased!!

Lindsay, are you admitted or still in the ER?

What Dr is treating you now and what is his medical plan for you?

I am admitted to sycomore hospital. The dr had me on fluids but my TPN ran out last night at 8 and I told the nurses then I needed more. They refused to call the dr cause it was do late. The pain is okay they just gave me meds. However the dr discontinued the Fluid and wants to start the TPN back up. The problem is I'm already dehydrated. The surgeon dr brown is going to do a scope tomorrow but has said he has not done a scope on anyone that was four weeks out.

I would make a fuss about fluids.

I'm not able to say on the scope. I wish I knew, if the scope is dangerous I would say hold off? I am not a Dr. so I'm only going on my personal opinion. This is such a delicate hard place to be at...but you don't want to risk damage to yourself. I read on here someone else was given steroids to reduce swelling. Is this an option for you? I know people have suffered strictures on here. Perhaps if you started a thread asking about what was done and when, someone will know. As it is, I believe this thread gets looked over because it started and remains titled "question about going to the bathroom"

I believe there is knowledge here we haven't heard from yet and I want you to gain some insight on what route to take for your closed up sleeve.

Please post some threads about your situation and let's see what answers we get...

Lindsay your doing great... Keep asking questions to your Dr.

All the why's and how's...

I want you to feel better by the safest means possible.

I made a fuss about the fluids and he is giving them now until 10. But I may push for longer cause I'm very dehydrated right now I go to throw up and I don't even have spit anymore :0( they are being nice up on the floor and I got to pet a yellow lab therapy dog which is owned by one of my nurses and she was dressed up as tinker bell

absolutely NOT the expert here but I think the first thing to do is the leak test and then steroids and if that doesnt work, the scope test. Least invasive first . Praying for you and the doctors to make the right decision and of course for your healing .

Well they did the scope and dr said he didn't know what to expect cause he had never done one early, but said the shape was correct. He said its open now but doesn't know if the pain could be caused by something else or the way the stomach is laying inside. He said we just have to wait it out!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
