I'm a little over 24 hours free from smoking. I've said since I started its not a nicotine addiction but a mechanical habit. So far I'm right. No moodiness or desire to inhale, just used to reaching for a cigarette after I eat. Any secrets to success? So far it's not a big deal :)

Congrats for stopping! I am at 4 weeks today, and I stopped cold turkey. I was a half a pack smoker and like to think or mine as mechanical as well. I NEVER smoked around my family! So I guess you can say I was a closet smoker ha. But I told myself(after my surgery got postponed due to them catching me with nicotine in my blood)that loosing weight and getting healthy is so much more important. So I have quit. I haven't had the moodiness or anything. Craving are fleeting and go away quickly. When I get them I occupy my mind and before I know it..its gone. I have not picked up eating more either. I guess I can say get gum...straw? When its that time of the craving. It will get easier :)

Thanks! I haven't even had my last NUT appt yet, it's scheduled for the sixth, and after that they send the papers into my insurance for the final go ahead for labs and everything. I'm super scared I'll still test positive for it. I know it can last up to a month in some people! I stopped cold turkey, too. I tried to wean myself earlier this year with the e cig, but that ended up costing MORE. So I figured just finish up my pack and say goodbye! My fiancé is being really good about not smoking much at all and not smoking around me. Thank God! Lol

Well done for your first 24 hours. I have watched my son (who is the only smoker in my whole family) try to give up and it looks sooooo hard well done and keep strong.

There was a prev thread on smoking. They said they rate them from like 1-5 ...or similar...but a 5 would show up as heavy smoker and 1 as non smoker etc. So if you have quit the numbers will tell. that is good he stopped doing it around you. It actually turns me off smelling it! So that helps me anyway. I hate that ashtray smell.

I only have 2 more appts and I am ready to go! Hoping by Jan/Feb at the latest

Oh I know. I walked out of the bathroom just a few minutes ago and I was like,"UGH you smoked!" he said it was only a couple of puffs lol it smells awful. I want to wash EVERYTHING now. I smell smoke everywhere!

I know my surgeon tests twice. The second one is the morning of surgery I think, so hopefully they'll be ok with a dropped level between the two if it shows up at all.

Did you have to do 3 or 6 months of pre op qualifications?

My insurance required 12 mo supervised diet and I was required to loose weight on it...of course I did not but didn't gain either. And then had to do crazy Dr for like 4 visits and 5 with Nut and 2 w surgeon. I am down to my last nut and last surgeon. Just waiting to get my nicotine lab done near thanksgiving and then making my appts. I do both in same day as it is far for me. so they really have been working well with that for me :)

And yes the smell is worse. You are hyper aware of the smell. That is good though , then you rememeber what you smelled like!

3 years quit for me and cigs smell HORRIBLE! I cannot believe I ever allowed myself to smell like that! As long as your head is in it, the cravings, if you have them, are easy to deal with and fleeting. Congrats!

I think to keep myself motivated I'm going to put up the money I would spend on cigarettes every time my fiancé buys some (we smoked the same amount) just to see how much I'm saving. Or rather, how much I was spending just to smell funky pretty much :/

I like that idea. I've been chewing on ice cubes. I just noticed I stopped chewing ice when I picked up smoking. Guess its time to switch back :) great job staying smoke free for so long!

I quit close to 2 months ago..and I smoked for 15 Years..I had the same issue..just the mechanical part..had to have something in my hands..I started outa with.and nicotene free electronic cigertette. Just. For those times when I was most used to smoking..like after eating or driving long distance or ina social setting. I had it handy for those times ...and now I don't ever really use it at all.

I've never seen a nicotine free one! The ones I used to use worked well but, nicotine is what I'm trying to avoid lol quitting after 15 years? Wow!

Yeah..it was hard to find..I got one called gold vapor. And they have nicotene free ones..even flavors like peach and vanilla..I don't even inhale it..because I don't know if Water vapor is even healthy..but it works when I'm anxious..you could go online and probably order them..it worked for me ..and I haven't even used it for a couple weeks it got me through the hard times..good luck!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
